It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: use of golf trolleys/ weight off the shoulder
I done my first P & L duty the other week before I went on A/L. It was great, you can't rush round with a trolley. The trolley was easy to pull so can't see that being a problem for anyone. Never had the time to complete so cut off and went back to the office. No stress, RM have f****d up
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Re: use of golf trolleys/ weight off the shoulder
For those who are fine with the trolleys, good on you, but the fact remains that you cannot hold your torso up straight when pushing or pulling these trolleys, in particular to get them in motion. They are also much lower than a bicycle tray, and therefore there is a large amount of bending to do, to get the mail and packets out of the side bags. I would bet my job on light weight trolleys being the instigator of many physical problems, particularly for the older fraternity of delivery people. They will also be very difficult if not impossible to use during conditions like we had last winter as the wheels will begin to slide due to terrain and uneven weight distribution, and delivery people will be having to strain their bodies again to keep them on line.

I thought you were not meant to bend, but actually squat, that may be the reason for back aches etc.Lincox wrote:For those who are fine with the trolleys, good on you, but the fact remains that you cannot hold your torso up straight when pushing or pulling these trolleys, in particular to get them in motion. And what about the strain on your hands having to keep hold of the handle for 5-6 hours.
How many posties will have claw hands a few years down the line.

I'm sure there will be some injuries here and there from pulling a trolley but the numbers will pale into insignificance compared to posties suffering from bad backs due to humping bags around . I think a duty would have to be 9-10 hrs long before you got anywhere near pulling a trolley for 5-6 hrs . If you are suffering from aches and pains using one hand , you can swap and use your left hand or vice versa , you could use some magic injury spray and then it would feel like someone is pulling it for you

If they are overweight on busy days i would suggest that your loops are too big.
Mini loops all the way .

Skull, I was being my usual self & being a little sarcastic.
Let's start a thread with all the reasons (excuses) why trolleys are no good.
See how many we can get to cover up the real reason why people just refuse to use them.
Or RM refuse to enforce the use of them.

Re: use of golf trolleys/ weight off the shoulder
Skull, why would someone want to hump bags around. Firstly, cycles are still the most efficient and harmless way of delivering mail on an assortment of different walk profiles. Agreed they are not so good on steep inclines and neither is a golf trolley. Absolutely no good for flats and high rise dwellings, and neither is a golf trolley. If Royal Mail persist with their unfounded assault on bicycles, then why can,t you use a Royal Mail van in much the same way as deliveries were and still are done in private cars. You take a couple of bundles out in a small bag, you deliver and then move the vehicle on to the next small drop. Simples. No humping heavy bags around, no stresses to the body dragging golf carts around, and as yet I have not seen any argument regarding the uselessness of GTs in ice and snow conditions. This is not about objecting to change for the sake of it, it is about Royal Mail doing a proper risk analysis into the use of golf buggys over the longer term, and our Union should be at the forefront of insisting this takes place.

fishtank the problem is we havent had any input at all to these dutys , cwu rep , planner , dim , and they havent even asked if we have any issues , total waste of time.fishtank wrote:If they are overweight on busy days i would suggest that your loops are too big.worktotime wrote: is your walk flat as ours is all on inclines , and on the busy days it a nightmare to use. and when left starts to roll.
The new trolley's have a front "foot" that stops them rolling,if they are still rolling it must be a mighty steep hill in which case your planner, manager and rep are muppets because the LWT isn't designed for steep inclines and shouldn't have been planned for these duties.

Yep same here.Back not a problem. Its the feet ,knees, hips and elbow.Five- six hours of this a day is going to take its toll.Never any problems when we had bikes and pouch drop calls.

Bad on the hips the trollies are.
I'm loving the adverts for motorised golf trolleys appearing at the bottom of this thread

Re: use of golf trolleys/ weight off the shoulder
ive used a trolley now the past 2 months, i hated it at first but i am getting used to it now, its really easy to use but does take longer so i would rather make my bags lighter and walk round. I would much prefer having my bike back though becuase we do so much more walking these days.... i get knackered after 1 round, bye bye overtime :)
