The phrase, "A spit in the ocean" springs to mind. I suppose any little bit extra is good news but the way things are I feel a bit shell-shocked. Didn't even realise what time of the year it was.

That massive pay rise 1.4% will be a great help when the cost of living has gone up by 100,000,000,000% :cuppa

Exactly! Petrol has went up 30-40% in this last year or so, and that has a knock on effect all around the place with food being more expensive etc. We need a pay rise of 6% or more to be as well off as we were a few years back!

This is what gets me about postal workers.

I appreciate that things are sh*te.

That the job's sh*te.

But posties seem to have their mode switched to moan all of the time.

Now, here's perspective. I am the only person I know who has got a pay rise this year. Yes, it's not the best pay rise in the world. I'd like a 10000% pay rise, please. But still, I am. In fact, I'm the only person I know to have had a pay rise at all in the last three years. And I'm already on more per hour than any of my friends.

So, it's not all doom and gloom. We could be better paid. Maybe we should. But perspective. In these 'austere' times, where us poor folk are all picking up the tab for those rich c*nts making mistakes, we have to be grateful for whatever tidbits we are given. Now, I'd like it to be otherwise. I have in fact promoted the idea of a revolution numerous times in tones that are not without seriousness. Yet nobody seems remotely interested, so I'll let them sit in the pub, drink beer, leer at women, moan, then go to sleep and do the same thing again tomorrow.

Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Just heard that the increase in Royal Mail Pensions already being paid out to retired staff and also those who have not retired but taken their pension is nearly 5% which is the rate of inflation. 1.4% means that the value of our earnings has agin gone down by 3.6% this year alone, so a pay rise of 3.5% NEXT YEAR if we get it, will have no impact in reversing the ever decreasing value of our earnings. We need a union that fights to at least preserve the value of our earnings in real terms, and not the race to devalue it down to mimimum wages rates.

Can anyone tell me if bought holiday deductions are actually listed in the Deductions section of the wage slip or whether they are magically removed from Basic Pay so you don't know how much you're paying? Only my Gross Pay is down by about a fiver from the beginning of April.

No they are not listed as a deduction - IIRC your pay rate changes thats all.

£5 - depending on your hours that could be right, especially if you only started buying the extra this year.
