Although I was aware that the 30 minute flexibility rule was based on ask and acceptance, can someone please clarify the situation with short and longs. Can they implement these without our acceptance, such as Mondays and Tuesdays are light days, so can they swap the hours so we do less hours on them days and more later in the week, without our agreement.

That would of been sorted with P&M,and for them to force it in now without a revision is EA.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If a DOM thinks that longs and shorts needs adjusting/finetuning then he should talk to rep and explain what changes to length of attendance he would like to make and explain why. It could be some days are too long and others are too short.

Chopping and changing from one week to the next is not a bona fida part of longs and shorts.

No they can't. This is enforced overtime and is strictly illegal. The CWU needs to move on this fast. It's happening in our office too.

Isn't 'longs and shorts' just the same thing? I work an hour less on mondays, tuesdays and saturdays, as those are the light days.

Long and shorts are an agreed pattern of attendance which reflects fluctuation of mail across the week, and these do not alter, but what managers are trying to enforce is flexi-time,so if it's busy on Monday, depite the fact the computer says it's quiet, they expect you to work over and then IF it's quiet on a Tuesday it should balance out :hmmmm
There is no agreement on this swings and roundabouts system, but worryingly it's raised an interesting question....
Do your contractual hours mean 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week??...so to utilise all paid hours means :hmmmm

It is managerial flexibilty all over. If they want you to be flexible you are expected to d it without question. If you ask them to be flexible then there is pig all chance.
