perhaps a fuller explanation is needed post_bitch as I was under the impression you "could" be sacked for cancer (as long as the rules were followed by managers/HR) not that you were automatically sacked as you appear to be suggesting.post_bitch wrote:you get sacked for cancer

However the act only gives you protection covering treatment, symptoms and lasting physical and mental effects.clashcityrocker wrote:I think you would.cantbelieveit's... wrote:What if i had cancer and was treated with chemo and i was cured, would i still be covered under the DDA.
It would be a very brave doctor who pronounced you "cured".
You might be in remission, but cancer by its very nature is not a curable illness.
Once you have been diagnosed with cancer you are covered and you remain covered by the DDA no matter how much better you get.
If you are in full remission and aren't suffering any long term effects from the cancer then obviously no reasonable changes in the workplace would be necessary and only sick absence directly related to the cancer and/or treatment would be discounted.

Re: Sick
If however the chemotherapy had left you bald, you could argue that perhaps you might not wish to deliver to schools for example where you fear you might be mocked because of your appearance. Or maybe you wouldn't want to meet Joe Public at all if you felt particularly self conscious and you could request a job away from the public eye.
Baldness can be covered by the DDA apparently. I have yet to put it to the test though.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Not to mock an obviously serious condition but i would imagine Royal Mail's idea of a reasonable solution would be...a hat.

Not to belittle an obviously serious condition but you could lose your eyebrows as well.
