Very commendable attitude Crockboy :Applause Pity more posties don't see it that way. Unfortunately most work on the basis of."I'm all right Jack f**k you!". :no no
I certainly wouldn't want to rely on half the arseholes I work with to back me up in a sticky situation! The pressure put onto PT workers (especially those on rolling contracts) by RM is disgusting. If you don't believe it think how much pressure you feel when you're FT! :mad

area rep says it was only a sweetner
The area rep said in his opinion the 1 in 4 Sats was in the agreement to sweeten the later Sats. He also told you that he was against the national agreement but now had to implement it because it had been voted through by the majority.

He also said that the price for 1 in 4 Sats off with FT staff working 8.45 days was that there would be less hours for the part time staff to be made up. He said this was a decision for the whole unit to take.

Likewise he said that keeping a 3.30 hr delivery span would impact of PT staff being made up to FT. Again this is a decision for the whole unit and not him.

No revision will be imposed without a vote.

It is always good to have both sides of the story.
How could we have ever doubted an Area Rep?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

They might well have done - but it's not for them to decide - It's a matter for the staff. If the office objectives at phase 1 are to maximise full time working then 1 in 4 sats for all staff can be incompatible. In my view the price for 1 in 4 sats is less chance of making part time up to full time, however this is a decision for the unit to take.

I understand your position Tamsky and in no way blame you for this situation but you can understand members frustrations.
1 in 4 Saturdays were sold to the membership as a compensation for working later and longer saturdays and now they feel that even this has been taken from them as it doesn't enable full-time working.
It's all very well saying that the office can choose but some offices are being given little choice and a great deal of pressure to increase their full-time ratio....i don't mean necessarily in the West of Scotland.

You are right Fishtank - at every unit meeting I've attended the two big issues have been the 1 in 4 sats off and the longer delivery spans. It is true to say that members are severely pissed off at being misled by the 'promises' in the national agreement. As if the loss of income through D2D was not bad enough. But we are where we are.

During the strike the part time time staff stood shoulder to shoulder with the full timers. We cannot now say to them that the rights of full time staff come first. Every full timer could have 1 in 4 sats off if you staff weekends with part time staff, but would this be fair. No

Likewise longer delivery spans - My own opinion is that 3.30 hrs is long enough to be outdoors delivering, maybe 4hrs with no bag on yer back. 4.30 is pushing it. But the effect of limiting spans is to lessen that chance of part time progression to full time. As indoor work reduces we need to increase the outdoor to maintain full time work. The answer, of course is to secure a 35 hr week through walk sequencing.

As you said in an earlier post we need to negotiate that following the revision full time vacancies will be filled, this allows for a progression to full time for some part timers. We have this agreement in the South West.

Members also have to acknowledge that being a postie is a job and not a hobby. Do the job properly and we can protect full time work.

You see Tamsky you have solved the problem of the falling workload all by yourself and yet the union had a whole team of negotiators who didn't see that solution - no - they decided to do away with the set delivery span "as an enabler" - not quite explaining that the "enabling" was for RM to demand longer and longer delivery spans because the indoor work was falling. :cuppa
