Keep counting, when you have your revision count as much as you can,the figures seem to be so way out the savings on hrs in offices are plummeting.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Happens in our office all the time as well, tipped a 'flat tray' recently with litralery 2 flats and all the rest letters. managers and rep tell me every time i flag it up, that it's all the mail is being counted......the managers like to add that the mails down.viking wrote:I am one of a few sorters left at our depot, whilst the others have been throwing in walks, making cups of coffee etc. etc. Over the past few weeks we have been noticing that a large proportion of the trays with flats in them have a few thrown in on the top and then underneath are large amounts of letters!!!!And then they wonder why the figures are wrong, {and supposedly down}

Re: Average Container Fills
In the IWT , where you have the page where you put in the ACF'S the lower the number the less saving which come out the other end. I understand that this is also going to effect the actual figure on the quantity on manual items coming into the office, but how accurate a figure are you going to get on that unless you count every item which is rather difficult in a large DO like mine. When i use the MC acf's the IWT savings drop by about 60 hours a week, compared to if it's left blank which is then the default figure(national).
Am i going nuts? all these tools, my heads spinning. Am i going the wrong way thoughts please.
Why isn't bob gibson sorting this out nationally rather than leave it local, it seems to be a problem with most DO's as mail centres are just not good enough.

It is crap, the area del rep and I spent almost 2 hours last week going over IWT with planner and DOM , ended up with IWT savings going down by 46 hours.

royal mail just love the tell the public mail is down and were losing money. bullshit. yesterday i witnessed something amazing. a guy, one of those who usually does collapsing, compared to others who never do it, said he could collapse that day. the manager looked at the figures and said, right, you have 800 letters including d2d. that means you should have time. the guy said no there is more and its really heavy too. the manager said ok get in my office. the manager counted every single letter on his frame, also d2d, and all together there was 1550 letters. almost double what the estimates were. in the end the guy was an hour late out the office, so he cut a third off and claimed an hour OT :D lol.

He should have cut off more ,being stressed and confused and not sure what was what, uncertainty and misinformation is a debilitating thing that can only detract from performancekimski1976 wrote:royal mail just love the tell the public mail is down and were losing money. bullshit. yesterday i witnessed something amazing. a guy, one of those who usually does collapsing, compared to others who never do it, said he could collapse that day. the manager looked at the figures and said, right, you have 800 letters including d2d. that means you should have time. the guy said no there is more and its really heavy too. the manager said ok get in my office. the manager counted every single letter on his frame, also d2d, and all together there was 1550 letters. almost double what the estimates were. in the end the guy was an hour late out the office, so he cut a third off and claimed an hour OT :D lol.

Re: Average Container Fills
I've just come across this thread.
A couple of months back I counted the letters in 2 of my trays (these arrived walk sorted), I can't remember the figures now, but both had over 300 letters.
I pointed this out to my line manager, his response was 'why are you wasting your time, the machine at the MC counts them'. so we know how many letters you have.
As I've never been to a MC, I don't know exactly how things work.
Is he correct, the machine counts how many letters it has sorted per walk, or does the MC just count the trays, and estimate the contents.
My office is in the midst of trying to sort out the new walks for the revision, which is currently going badly wrong somewhere. Tested park & loop walks taking anything up to 7 hours. So in my own mind, I'm wondering if our traffic figures are badly wrong. Could just be the the postmen & managers testing the walks are not running fast enough.

Re: Average Container Fills
Yes the MC counts the mail that goes through the machines, the problem is what goes in the boxes and yorks.
RM say an average box is one figure but when we count what is in each box it is usualy a lot higher.
What boxes are on what yorks are usually wrong as well.
Pound to a penny every traffic figure in every office is wrong, simples.
