There is absolutely no valid reason why postmen/women should be out tramping the streets beyond 1.00pm on a Saturday, not a single one, apart from the fact that it was too good an oportunity to piss postal workers off for Royal Mail's Mon-Fri senior management to turn down.
It doesn't get any better, this job, does it? Talk about dead-end. :evil/mad

The Giro Chasers won't be happy, if their local Post office shuts before they get their cash fix!

Internet shopping isn't making up for the loss of stamped mail. Its helped minimise the impact but it is no way making up for what we're losing on letters, not be a long way. :cuppa

Financially no,but work wise the bags are bulkier, you need more bags due to the weight problem, and there are more knocks on the door which slows us down.

In affect strangely, there is more work but less income.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The reason is probablly special 'Sat Del' d2d. d2d customers are going to pay a premium for delivery of their leaflets on a Saturday as it's when most people are in when the delivery occurs and they will be more relaxed and open to suggestion due to being off work. Big revenue earner for RM. We will get none of that money ofcourse but WILL be doing all the work and have a messed up weekend. Thanks CWU.

Door to Door and saturdays took the longest to get agreed. The union tried every possible arguement to keep saturdays as they are now. However Royal Mail would not agree not to run the walk sequence machines on a Saturday.

The fact remains that you will not need to alter your saturday finish until you have walk sequencing. However if you choose to go for an option of improve attendaces then long saturdays normal come as a result.

Remember when Royal Mail agreed to shorter saturdays under SDD they did so by not delivering mail sort 3 until monday. Mail sort 3 has all but disappeared as its has been captured by downstream access. Now a normal saturday office traffic level is the same as a Wednesday , Thursday or Friday level. Yet we complete Saturday in less hours. Royal Mail are not stupid they know that peoples productivity levels normally increase on saturdays and that lot of indivduals come in early on saturdays to get an early finish.

The reason for a later saturday is all down to walk sequencing and the time you get your second 40% of work which is normally your IPS. Now that work has to be sequenced and then arrives on your walk, now in the past that work is in your office from appox 0600 now that work will not arrive until as late as 0800 but could be as late as 10 in the morning. You still need to prep the work in the frame , redirctions , do you dead letters and tie up. Your delivery will possibly be 3.5 hours and you will have 30 mins travelling and maybe 30 mins replishment. So if you recieve your second batch at 0800 your still be able to finish by appoxmately 2 , if you recieve the second batch at 10 then you may be on till 3.

However the agreement states that most will be finished by 2 , the vast majority by 2.30.

However it was not the union who wanted longer saturdays it was because Royal Mail would not agree to turn of walk sequencing machines off on Saturdays. Now whether you vote no or you vote yes Royal Mail will still work the machines on saturday and you will still have to either work later on saturdays or leave the job, there is no veto on this issue. Believe me the union has tried. However what you do have if the agreement is accepted a commitment to less saturdays then now.

If there is no agreement then you will still have to work longer saturdays but probably without the option of less saturdays as most operational managers do not like that part of the agreement.

I know this is true from one of their briefings last year,(during the dispute).Luckily the Interim Agreement stopped it.Also the line managers moaned a bit too,(not too much though!)

We've already been told that it's highly unlikely we'll be getting any more Saturdays off anyway, our office is small, and the manager can't see how he can give us any more off.

Sorry it is not down to you manager it is part of the national agreement and your manager has no veto on it. The first part of any revision is a survey of the members on what attendances the staff want. Managers will be told by their DSMs who will be told by their regional directors what to do and the agreement states everyone who wants to work one in four can do so with options for working less on the table as well. Stop believing your dom and start getting organised in your office in order to get the best from this national agreement when it is endorsed by the members.

It's a wonder why members are so sceptical of anything.A manager decides he can't do it and some go "OK". The national agreements are exactly that.Nothing will work in any office if members are not on board.
If you have not got a rep,(although judging by some on this forum those that say they haven't should stand..smart folk on here),get your area rep to get the divisional rep to know. Also get their email addresses.Let them know what is happening in your office on a day to day basis.

Don't "spit in", "Spit out",(if you will excuse the phrase!)

Whether there is a ballot or not, this should be happening anyway. Get yourselves a committee started in your office,(big or small). Meet once a month and pass on your findings to your area rep.
Your branch will have AGM's in where ALL are invited. At the moment the attendances to these are very poor.

Please don't sit on your hands.

Hold on there guys, what would you really prefer, every sat late or the chance to have at best 1 in 3 sat off!!!!
Get your rep involved and look on this site for the template and you can see that you can still work 5 days or 4 and some of the spans are not as big as you think.
Some even have you off 1 in 4 weeks from fri-wed.... ffs what more do some guys want....get the rep working and see how many patterns you can put into office, remember not everyone has to have the same patterns, there could easily be a wide mix. :cuppa

Unlike geo route before,(in which the programme was told, "Put these hours in and work from that"). This time it will be different.I have already been told by our DSM that if more hours need to be put in then so be it.In the old days the reps would do the revision. That is now to take place again.

It will/might be a massive task for the reps.As long as they stick with the guiding principles and inform the area rep if "they" get funny. They will do as some directors don't like the agreement because it puts the union in the centre.

This is how it should of always been in my opinion. I think that there were mixed messages from HQ in terms of geo-route.Well some offices did accept it,(mine included). We need to take charge of it.Thats all.

There will be no imposed changes to saturday attendances until there is an agreement that is acceptable to the membership.
That is covered by the interim agreement is it not?
Unless of course we are to believe that Royal Mail will break an agreement brokered by ACAS?
In which case this whole agreement is worthless.
I have noticed the big stick is out today. :whistle

There is a proviso though isn't there about it being SELF FINANCING - which is strange really because according to the letter between Dave and Dale the revisions will not be motivated by budget - so how do you reconcile one with the other? If there is an increase in budget in order to apply the matrix that best suits the members does that rule it out?
