Re: To the early starters and the own car users
It works both ways here. Yes as previously stated, I use my car, but there's another complete thread on that so won't go into it again.
I certainly don't start early. I certainly don't run. And I certainly don't finish early. I don't have my break, I admit to that, but due to the work that I do indoors, I can go out and have a smoke break whenever I feel like it, which usually works out better for me and RM, as if I had a set break, lorries wouldn't get unloaded, and I can have a smoke whenever I need one. When I stop smoking tomorrow (eeeeeeeeeeeeek yes I've bitten the bullet and am gonna attempt it) I will take my break :) Just try and time it at a decent time that will suit me and RM.
I realise I'm not in the same boat as most of you guys. As I don't start work until 9:30. Therefore I don't go out and do my part duty until 1pm. Then my 1hr 20 mins on delivery (2 Starburst duties as part of rehab). So me using my car isn't affecting anyone else in the office, other than the fact that there is no PO for me to drop my packets off at, but this has always been the case. When I'm off on holiday they duty gets covered at the beginning of the shift, alongside all the other starburst duties. And as I've said before, I will be happy for them to introduce no cars, as it means the management will need to be better organised.

Re: To the early starters and the own car users
It's of no use blaming fellow workers for changes in the workplace. Apart from the fact that such theories cannot be proven one way or the other (who's to say whether anything would be different if people did not come in early or use their own cards), it's completely futile to blame anyone. The changes are here - deal with it.
Bitter tirades at fellow workers is sadly all too common within RM, and on this message board. It's the one thing I dislike most about working at RM - sadly too many grumpy old men, abusive idiots and generally unpleasant people who like to moan and groan, complain and blame everyone else for their 'living hell' working at RM.

I kind of agree wih your last paragraph , but as i'm not an abusive idiot, i'm probably a grumpy old man.Silence wrote:It's of no use blaming fellow workers for changes in the workplace. I covered a guys duty who uses his car,it had one box.I ended up with 4 hours ot the amount of time I had to go back to that box.I humped mail for ages on a dead walk just to get to live streets. If people hadn't used cars RM would have got the finger out and put new boxes in.
But you carry on,f**k the rest of us....

You're right, but we can't expect any employer to to happy with employees that work at whatever speed they want. Obviously nobody should have work like crazy to get the job done, but we all know people that are just too slow.POSTMAN wrote:There are people in my office that i wouldn't be able to walk down the street with.OnAFlyer wrote:It works both ways. People are quick to blame the runners, when the job is just as full of people who think they have the right to work at whatever speed they want to.provo postie wrote:You do realize that you are the reason the job leans toward part time, the lack of boxes, the lack of drivers.Running about like a f***ing idiot has f****d us all.If you want to finish early, get another job. They've looked at job and finish and seen how quick it can be done in if you rush like an idiot.
You do realize that right?
People treating the job like a Sunday stroll is the reason that RM have this new agreement stuffed full of agreed work standards.
Everyone walks at a different pace.I am faster than others and others are faster than me.
Plenty on this site will (and have) say that they do the absolute minimum required, well i'd be willing to bet that under any sort of performance standards that 'minimum' wouldn't be enough.
IMO the 'runners' have nothing to do with increased workloads, certainly no more than the slow ones that RM also know they can get more out of. RM's claims of drops in mail volumes, diminishing income due to that lack of volume, DSA, competition, the economic situation etc are all far more realistic reasons as to why we are being asked to do more for less.
But hey, why bother when many on here would rather not face reality and instead blame their fellow workers for everything.

Re: To the early starters and the own car users
by croziers own admission they wanted people to work all the hours they are paid, the only way they can work this out is by people finishing due to rushing around and then going back to the office at say 12pm. If your gonna rush around then fair enough but i try to avoid going back to the office and letting managers see what time you finished. They have worked all this out and have realized that they havent used the workforce to its full capacity.

To all the early starters, if for example 8 people in your office started an hour early each day every day over the course of the week that is 48 hours, you will have slashed from your own office by your own hand one full time job and perhaps a part timer, well done lads keep flying

In our WTLL session , our lino who's acting this week , didn't mention it either. Or later sats or indeed D2D. In fact he only mentioned the monetary aspect to the ones who had ££ signs in their eyes and can't be bothered to read the agreement. He didn't explain anything really . We sent him off to the Dom with a list of questionsRicky Bruch wrote:DOM today failed to mention that in WTLL session, I wonder whybillypants wrote:this agreement prevents the use of private cars on duty . . . . . maybe one of the few positives to come out of it

Re: To the early starters and the own car users
How many times have you had this scenario in YOUR office??
"I tell you what, we should all work to rule - and stop using our cars"
"Yeah, that would f*ck 'em right up!!" (nods all round)
I hear this maybe once every few months.. not one single driver ever leaves a car at the office.
It's all bravado on the post - too many shithouses.
