Re: van sharing
Anyone out there already doing this fart an poop thingy yet?? if so does it cause alot of friction cause i bet it does. Infighting and verbals etc cause of people either dragging thier feet or simply not doing thier fair share or simply working with a complete spanner who you cant stand looking at nevermind being in the same van as them. Could someone give us some detail on the problems they have encountered since doing it muchas gracias.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Would imagine it would be more loops on an easier day like a tuesday and a loop would be a golf trolley worth.

As far as I know 1 loop is decided by locality (ie a street where each postie does one side) or a small bag replenished at the next loop, never just a bundle, unless your really old and really slow!!
We have a shared van system in my office but it doesn't work the way RM want it to...it has been tweaked to suite the lads that have to do it......I cannot see this being accepted nationally though.

Re: van sharing
That shouldn't be a problem, if they only provide the training, on condition that you do a driving duty for a certain length of time (e.g. 3 years). And that if you don't (unless you're sacked of course). You have to pay the bill for the training.dvbuk55 wrote:ErmSherpas Rule wrote:I was thinking about this as well, if your office doesn't have enough drivers what are the chances of the RM putting you through driving lessons and test if you promised to drive for them once you've passed?andy2007 wrote:Would RM provide driving lessons, if they need you to drive?
They provide lessons for the Truck Drivers, so why not CDV Drivers?None because it would create a precedent. There was a time when that did happen but so many left afterwards they stopped it - I wouldn't imagine they would start the scheme up again.
Having said that if you were prepared to do it in your own time at your own expense they may utilise your services afterwards.

Re: van sharing
This was the original plan - I think you had to serve two years after being taught to drive or you paid back the cost - ahem - after three months they would leave and hey ho - how do you collect the money?andy2007 wrote:That shouldn't be a problem, if they only provide the training, on condition that you do a driving duty for a certain length of time (e.g. 3 years). Re: van sharing
If you've signed a contract saying that if you leave within the 2 years, you have to pay the training costs. Then they could take you to Court, for non-payment. Whoever looses, would have to pay the Court costs. And I can't see someone choosing to leave, in breach of that type of contract winning. Could you?

Absolutely - it would just be a pain chasing someone - especially if they aren't residents.andy2007 wrote:If you've signed a contract saying that if you leave within the 2 years, you have to pay the training costs. TBH I don't think there would be any call for it, every new recruit is a driver, in fact at one point on the online application if you got as far as "Do you have a current UK driving licence and said NO that was as far as it would take you.

True. But that doesn't help existing Posties, who don't have a Driving License. I know several who don't have one. Although admittedly, I don't work in Deliveries. And I also knew someone on PMC who doesn't have a Driving License, but DOES work in Deliveries.

Re: van sharing
Ever since shall we say more than 50% used their own cars for the transportation of mail to delivery point and also as mobile bag drop facility is it not surprising that royal mail jumped on the bandwagon but it depends upon your contract IE when did you start do not post this on here!. Suffice to say if the job you applied for mentioned driving you would have to do as such or you would break you contract!.edo10 wrote:can we be forced to drive ? need some clarity on this

There are many in deliveries who don't have a license and many more who simply don't want to drive.andy2007 wrote:True. But that doesn't help existing Posties, who don't have a Driving License. It was not a prerequisite when most of us joined.
The question is how will there aspirations be met with regards seniority and a repick of duties after a cdv based revision.
20 years service and no duty are not a happy mix.

Re: van sharing
Well you are both right of course and I was looking at it a little shortsightedly I suppose because having done park and loop as an office it wasn't a problem and we haven't had a repick and it is 18 months since we started. At the outset people were just moved from their duty to man the vehicles and it was originally only full timers with two drivers but over this period it has become 1 driver and part timers in some instances and it still functions but of course I suppose you come to accept things rather than agree them.fishtank wrote:There are many in deliveries who don't have a license and many more who simply don't want to drive.andy2007 wrote:True. My first point was what if nobody wants to drive and the answer was we'll cross that bridge IF we come to it but it didn't come to that of course but I got the impression that people who wouldn't drive would be given short shrift - and that was then. You get the feeling that there has been a bit of a sell out on this 10% performance issue - if one office produces an x performance whilst using park and loop and the office next door is not too keen and does not consequently perform as well will they be forced to use the same methods in order to produce the same result or certainly within the proscribed parameters, and what price the much vaunted CWU involved in change and agreement.
It will of course depend on what is going to be park and loop and what duties are chosen. You can still perform CDV with just one driver BUT I would certainly want some time increase incorporated in the deal. I would also make certain as far as possible that the duties chosen are TAILORED to park and loop and not just two duties bolted together.
