Couldn't agree more mate. I'm really hoping that we get this at our place.johnnyp wrote:Thats what we have been doing for the last 3 years at our placeabraham wrote: etc etc
this is how you get 1 in 3 Saturdays off. You have a 3 man 4 x 10 hour day, no a/gs or volunteers necessary. Long days but better than 1 in 6 off.
can somebody please use this to explain to people how it works.![]()
Its a long day but believe me those long weekends every 3 weeks were well worth itthe weds and thurs off breaks the week up nice as well.If you can get this duty structure at your office then go for it
its all about getting quality time away from the job imho.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

1 in 4 Sats I fear is a con. There is nothing in black and white in this agreement other than:
'Royal Mail and CWU commit to providing more Saturday off options as part of improved attendance patterns for delivery employees'
That means NOTHING. It could be interpreted as 2 rounds in a large office being on Sat 1 in 5.
'Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme.'
So they are committing to 1in 4 only DURING the transformation programme? Who knows? Buy with this wording 1 in 4 could be a temporary scheme ending when RM have completed their transformation programme whatever the HELL that is.

Re: 1 in 4 saturdays
If they are saying that "no one will start after 07.00 " does that mean the end of hybred duties that started wiping out the SA's?,and does that mean as we are loosing the early start allowance, from when we did start early ,that we could in theory go back to earlier starts i.e. 5.00am?.

You will get a Saturday off every 3 weeks, along with Friday,Monday and Tuesday
Add to that Wednesday and Thursday off in between then yes you will have a life,54 extra days leave a year

When I joined RM we were home by 11am latest on a Saturday, I can only assume you dont watch or play sport on a regualr basis on Saturdays like many posties do, otherwise you would realise why having Wednesday and Thursdays off instead is of very little appeal to those that participate in sport.

if it's 10 hours on a Saturday, that only leaves 29 hours for the other 3 days!! so forget 10 hours. You get 50 minutes meal relief with a 10 hour day too, the same over the whole week but still 50 minutes off the Saturday total hours, try not to do d2d, no traffic plus any other bits you can negotiate locally.
Remember your managers will be less than impressed with the longer Saturdays themselves (as will their partners - get under their skins, starting now) there should be room for some local agreements to get it down further.

New agreement says day specific D2D, do you really think those will be on on a Mon to Fri !!!!!!!!!
7am start is 5pm finish ! or even 6am start is 4pm finish, sorry mate but if you want to work till that time on a Saturday then you have different requirements for your weekends than those that I have.

Re: 1 in 4 saturdays
Can you put up the bit in the agreement that says we will all be on a 2day off rotation with 1 in 4 saturdays off please cause I missed it.johnnyp wrote:Why not?singingpostman wrote:10 hour days on a Saturday ???????????????????

The agreement says NOTHING about a garanteed 2day off rotation only that their aim is to allow more flexible shift patterns. That's a nice aim in there that can be completely ignored by a DOM if he/she wants. The 1 in 4 Sat is another 'aim' but is only promised 'during' the transformation process. That will last a few months, after that there is no commitment to 1in4 Sats. It's simply NOT promissed long-term by the whisy-washy wording so unfortunately your bannana man represents missplaced optimism.
btw if you have a 2day rota how big is your office? Can it even work in a large office?

Re: 1 in 4 saturdays
so surely if you have a 10 hour day then your delivery would be about 6 hours of that. I did 6 hour deliverys at christmas and was not fit for anything else for the rest of the day.our delivery span on an 8 hour day is 4 to 4 1/2 hours so to do anything morre than that would not be welcome
