Whatever happened to employing people with the right qualifications?
There are plenty of duties in RM, where you don't need to be able to read English very well, in MCs and RDCs. For example outward processing. Where you just match a letter or number, to the one on the cage. It's all manual labour. Little if any linguistic skills required.

But the prospect of someone going out on deliveries, when they can't read or speak English properly, is worrying. Not only will they risk making mistakes. But they'll have serious problems asking for directions, if they get lost.

I suppose common sense is too much to ask for eh?

It should read "unable to speak" not "too speak".

If at any time you come across somebody charged with the delivering of mail in Britain, and you find that the person cannot speak, never mind read, English, it is not racist in any way, shape, or form, to point out the absolute absurdity of such a ridiculous scenario.
I mean, I cannot speak, never mind read, Polish, but were I to work for the polish postal service, would a Pole be racist to point such an obvious fact out, of course not.

I aint racist, far from it,from the background i was brought up in. If anyone who comes to this country is commited to working,paying taxes i salute them, but we have an iraqi bloke at our office who is excused to go on the sorting as he struggles with the english language very badly. He therefore is allowed to prep the walks he's familiar with. Yet when he is moved to another walk to prep he constantly missorts a hell of alot. He basically cannot read, as he goes by road spelling familiarity, if a road starts with the same letter and looks familiar to another road the chances are they will be missorted. So the person ending up delivering it will bring back a load of missorts. He has even been caught dumping mail back into pillar boxes in the past, as we have checked the letters, dates etc and the state of the letter,ie dirty,creased,and weathered, but the gaffer has just brushed it to one side. He doe'snt deliver 739 cards either has he cannot fill one out so he brings the packets back for the next person to re-deliver the following day. People at our place dread having a day off/holiday incase this bloke has been on thier walk the previous day.

Different rules??? Or is it a case that the management are worried stiff to act as they are scared of being branished with the race card.

I get fed up with people like you crying racism over stuff like this. Being critical because someone cannot speak English very well in the given situation is not racist. My personal take on it would be why employ someone to do a particular job if they do not have the required skills.
You woudn't employ someone to drive a taxi if they couldn't drive in the first place.

Who are the racists?

People who want everyone to be treated the same or people who are happy for as many immigrants as possible to be brought in to this country to be used as a 'slave class'.

In my experience, nature blesses racists with mixed race grand-children and they soon change their views.

Employers love immigrants because they are grateful and can be ripped off. Governments love immigrants because they help employers generate profits and more business tax.

Where I work, the immigrants are far better educated than the home-grown managers but, for some reason, their qualifications are not recognised.

Home-grown education is a joke. Independent assessment by examination has been replaced by subjective course-work assessment. Thick students are rewarded for colouring in. Uneducated managers who think they are educated are exactly what the government wants. They make the ideal shoppers and will borrow more money eventhough they are being paid far beyond what they deserve.

New Labour's view is that the white working class should cough up for a degree and they will be rewarded by being given a job managing better educated, immigrant 'slaves'.

While at the moment i am not directly involved it has come to my attention that their is double standards in royal mail. The particular case in being is that the staff on permanent contracts be it full time or part time on these contacts are more accountable than those who do not!. WHY ? is it dumbing down the service we provide as the only benefit i can see for the introduction of walk sequencing is that and as such those who would not normally be given duties while incapable are performing these duties even though not capable ( ) while others are being suspended for trivial offences such as not being up to speed or unable to work unpaid overtime or even not delivering all door too door even though the non permanent contracts don't ever do them!.

There is the original post with the offending part removed.It stands alone as a post. I too have seen people come and do a duty in our office and leave bags of mail in drop boxes and Special Deliveries as well.They get away with stuff no full timer would get away with. This has got nothing to do with their nationality.
Why k799aaa felt the need to put in in capital letters that they didn't speak English very well only he can say, but obviously to some (me and CCR included) it was offensive,It was like shouting "They had just come off the boat."I notice the capital letters have gone.Why? Did a moderator change it or k799? Would it have been acceptable to write they were thick paddies, or pissed Jocks or smelly pakis? Obviously (I hope) not.It was offensive and racist and deserved to be challenged.
