I would support an "All Out" indefinite strike but I think it be a big mistake, it would hand all the control to RM management straight off and leave the CWU and loyal supporters with no where to go.

If we called an all out the following would happen.

1. RM would immediately close all post boxes and instruct POs to store their mail.
2. It would instructs bulk senders to suspend all but time critical mailings.
3. All waiverers would start to cross the picket line immediately. With a trickle turning into a flood by the end of the 1st week. These days no one saves (well I do) and most people live pay day to pay day and very few could last more than a week without severe problems.
4. RM would have a new contract waiting for everyone as they went back to work, and if refused to sign it you would be refused work or sacked.
5. The CWU would loose members in droves as support leached away and it would damage the CWU irrevisably for at least a generation.

So for the reason given I would go out on an all out if it was called, but I honestly and truthfully think it would be the biggest mistake they could make, we have the high ground lets not loose it by taking things to far.

coulnt support an indefinate all out strike. I can plan finances around the one days, could stretch to two day if that is the decision by CWU as needed....BUT.... before strike action my finances were precarious. When you lose a day from a PT wage there is not much give. I agree with previous poster that perhaps 50% would immediatly go back to work

as one who took part in 1971,an all out strike is indeed a last resort, what the union are doing just now is good .
we are only losing a days pay but the management are losing 3 days work and the public are getting fed up of managements reluctance to go to acas.
