Re: PART TIMERS NEED A BREAK
we've a few part timers who expect there mail to be prepped ready for them ahead of your own work, then whilst out on the rounds if its a heavy day they expect you to break off your own delivery to go and give them a hand.

I've a feeling that a year, most likely less, down the road, the pleasure will be all theirs.moodyarse wrote:well ive worked for 9 months in my depot and only a handfull of people make conversation. the majority of full timers look at me like im a summit they trod in!!and not a day goes by without one of them making a comment about part timers. i get 6 hours to do what they get 8 hours to do ! and most of them go home on their round anyway. and they want my support for the strike!!!! i get great pleasure going past them on the picket line. well ive got that off my chest

Re: PART TIMERS NEED A BREAK
alot of part timers in our office took a pay off. you have the same rights as full timers if you dont want to work over then say no and stick to it., the more you say yes the more they will come back to you asking for you to do more.coxie wrote:im a full timer and i have no problem with part timers, its not your fault royal mail only give you a part time contract and i appreciate your just trying to make a living like the rest of us.

Think its your attitude that makes them not talk to you rather than you being part time.

much as i agree that as full timers we are now given more work as we have to prep part timers walks. we shouldnt give grief to the part timers they are doing what they are contracted for. royal mail made the changes not the part timers.

your one of the lucky one m8, good manager for a change, his motive is to keep his workers happy, not push them so he can have a fat bonus at the end, razor wrote:Not all part timers. I get 2 hours to prep my walk and never get hassled to do overtime. Our office has a list of people who want to do docket and the manager goes to them first.
I can honestly say i have never felt intimidated or pressured to do anything.
And no im nor a DOM or a plant.

Re: PART TIMERS NEED A BREAK
Full time / part time, everyone in my office gets on fine (well nearly everyone), have to say though as pt when i start at 7.15 it's soul destroying to find the ft's have their rounds prepped and have time for a chat while we have to rush to catch up before the next lot of mail comes in. Many of the pt staff come in early just to give themselves extra time. i don't, i think it's foolish of anyone to willingly give royal mail unpaid working hours.

I came through the system starting as an AG and getting a temporary and then permanent FT leave reserve position before getting my own walk nine years ago. Because they tend to move around more I think the walk knowledge that the part timers accrue is a talent that is wasted by them not doing IPS - we will eventually run out of people to do that and machines will never do it all.

(I'm 30 hours bye the way) :cfo :mfo
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: PART TIMERS NEED A BREAK
The fur coat and brolly brigade were seen as a scourge in my office when the agreement to part-timers was first implemented.
Our view was dramatically changed when after they had been put upon by managers for about six months they were the first out of the door when we had to strike after a suspension
In fact all of them had a good reason to work and none were in other jobs and the hours meant their partners could help with the kids.
After that they asked for and got a Rep and far more acceptance. Up to that time they also had the crap work.
They have a living to earn as well so don't knock 'em just for the sake of it.

Your entire walk should be ready. Thats the difference.Acca Dacca wrote:Im on a 25 hour contract, whats the difference between that and 30 out of interestmoggymoz wrote:BoyGeorge wrote:we've a few part timers who expect there mail to be prepped ready for them ahead of your own work, then whilst out on the rounds if its a heavy day they expect you to break off your own delivery to go and give them a hand.anyone on less than a 30 hour contract should have their entire walk thrown off for them, all they should have to do is bag up and hope the drivers not f*cked off...
