They wanted us out of the office by 9 this morning but still had us up on the IPS for over an hour. I only managed to get my mech prepped then it was time to tie up, so on Monday I've all todays IPS letter/flats and 2 packet bags :dance Whats the point of rushing round like a lunatic to clear it all in one day it makes the strike pointless :arrrghhh
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

1hr extra today not by choice but more as I was fed up of arguing with DOM over cutting off and just wanted out from under his face before I did or said something I'd regret.
Royal Mail won't break me, though its been fairly close recently!

We were on IPS from 6-7.45, everything sorted inc all mailsort and flats, though the knock on effect was not as much went out on delivery.

i went in on time today, most of the other FTs already in there and throwing their jobs in,
went onto the sorting there was that much had to go see the DOM and say we were cutting off :so there
7 york's 1st / 2nd class mail and mail-sort all left.

By the time we had threw our jobs off and bundled up i only had time for 2 bags.

we are going to have some fun Monday :chuckle

Not too bad , just like any other busy saturday certainly not mail levels like we had after a friday strike in 2007.

Potentially the backlog has not worked its way through fully yet, so a very busy day Monday.

We were told to leave enough time to get round the whole del and leave mail unprepped on the frame if nesscary.

Ive left a handful of DSA and the same with MS3.

Went in at normal time, pretty busy but not two days worth. What gets me is nobody said anything. It would have been nice if a manager came up and said I know its busy just do your best, or would you like to work overtime today? Union rep could have come up and said don't feel you have to take everything out...but no one said anything. I just got on with it, left late and claimed over an hour overtime. Where is the support? Where is the communication? I'm sure loads of people don't want to work overtime every day, but feel pressurised into it. If the union rep went round, he could explain to people what they need to do if they don't want to go over, but everyone just gets on with it, usually clearing office.

Preferably not unpaid and overworked. But it would be in out interests to have some support, instead of just doing more work the day after a strike to clear the backlog. If we all got together and under guidance of the union decided not to work overtime, not go in early etc etc, the strike would have more impact.

Sorry the Union cannot give you guidance not to work overtime without a duly authorised ballot taking place as it is considered as Unofficial Industrial Action, for which you can be dismissed, and if CWU involvement is proved sequestration of Union funds, even at branch level I think.

The Union is only as strong as the people who are members. The Union cannot be there to "hold your hand" all the time, occasionally you have to make the decision yourself on how far you are willing to go, or how far the business can push you.

Saturday and Today at my DO we worked to the book and the Managers knew we would not be able to take everything out so we didn't and stuff has been left. On both days I worked to my time + 5 minutes (arse covering)

BTW The Union have been running this campaign for 2 years have you missed it:

OK, point taken. It's a shame that a lot of us, mostly new posties, feel pressurised into finishing their walk, or are just too embarrassed to find out what they are supposed to do if they don't want the overtime. I suppose that's where good colleagues come in, a friendly "you don't have to stay out 'til tea time you know, just tell the manager you can't work overtime today", or simply pointing out that others do it, you won't be alone.
Personally, I need the overtime, but feel it hinders our struggle at times like these (when we are striking).

Had hardly anything today, 4 mech bundles, a quarter full packet bag and a few flats and letters. Was out for 8:00 and back for 11:00. Longs and shorts were cancelled so i made 1hr 45mins :Very Happy

I'm guessing i will get stung tomorrow!
