Depends where the office is read the original post again."we are in an industrial estate" This is now common place especially with new and improved super DO's where offices are put together.
I did read the original post, his office is 5 miles from where he lives it shouldn't be a problem getting there under his own steam.
I also work from an office in an industrial estate, 8 miles from where I live. I think it is unrealistic to expect Royal Mail to get you into work, how many other workplaces would do this?
I can't get a lift back to the office after my round yet some guys expect a lift into work, you've got to laugh.

It's not as black and white as that,we had van pickups after we moved to an industrial estate due to bus times.
The pick ups are not from my colleagues home, they are from various spots in our area. One spot being from our old DO.
This whole thing obviously depends on the area and the bus times.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Stormproof wrote:They stopped the vans picking us up before work a couple of years ago. I get a lift in with a colleague but he's just gone onto 5 on 1 off rotation. Luckily there is a bus at 5.25 Mon-Fri that gets me into work just before 6, Saturdays I have to walk in just over 3 miles which scares the crap out of me as its dark and a lot of places where people can lurk
Stormproof, we had this happen to a girl in our office a few years back. She came in one Saturday and informed the line manager she had been followed to work that morning, and thereafter she was always picked up at home on a Saturday. I'm sure if you did this any reasonable manager would do the same for you, especially as you're willing to get in under your own steam the rest of the week.

There is a firm in my town that moved from a central location to a warehouse on the outskirts - it now provides 2 buses in the morning to collect staff and 2 buses in the afternoon/evening to drop them back. Whats more they did it off their own backs and without any Union involvement. Guess they believe that treating staff as a valuable asset pays off in the end.

Just ask one of your Collegues to give you a lift on their way in. There's lots of people do that where I am. Particularly as it's a 40 - 50 mile round trip for most. There must be one of your Colegues with a car, who lives near you.

As was the case when we moved to our current office,it only lasted three years though. Don't get me wrong Royal Mail has many faults but I don't think you can blame them for expecting staff to make their own way into work.
Apart from one major employer in this area everyone I know outside of RM has to do this.
