Re: graduate managers
you have to give them a chance.if they are prepared to listen to you and not talk down to you will be a start.the trouble is with r.m at the moment is there seems to be a competition to see how far you can p*ss off staff at the moment.

Re: graduate managers
I personally think that any manager should work their way up the ranks and should have a reasonable amount of experience of all aspects of the area that they manage.

Re: graduate managers
Absolutely spot on......even Crozier said half of them were useless...mind you he has done nothing about it........mailsort6 wrote:Graduate managers are like the rest of the managers a load of rubbish they do not know anything about efficiency and effectiveness most managers at RM have never work at any other companies (most of the ex-posties that are managers now were postal cadets) and most graduate managers have just come straight from university. Sometimes managers can come up with some incoherent ideas that a real manager would just laugh at, I am not surprise at the situation RM is in, we should have the world's greatest postal system and no one should be able to touch us but because of incompetance and lack of management techiques and strategies our postal system is at it knees and the only way to save it is to take a good look at the management.
As for graduates, as anyone can be a graduate nowadays, is it any wonder those that RM take on are any better than the rest of us?

Re: graduate managers
My personal experience of the 3 we have had is that they have been a little lack luster, have problems with the comprehension of the job, what we do, i have found that they have grand ideas of what we should do,we had one that said to us that she could not understand why we took so long delivering a few items? 11 bags later! i exxplained that i found it hard to understand how she had taken so long to become a manager and i could not understand how she tought she needed to get a graduate qualification to be a lackie that had to curtail to other managers who were just as dumb as herself, thoutght it was a bit of a waste of money, she did'nt stay long,so not alot.

Thats fine but my manager did and he just thinks everything is as rosy as it was when he was a postie 20yrs ago!SpacePhoenix wrote:I personally think that any manager should work their way up the ranks and should have a reasonable amount of experience of all aspects of the area that they manage.

Re: graduate managers
Somes employees have worked their way up, however, what new concepts and ideas have they really contributed to RM? When posties become managers how many of them go on a management course at college to learn about different management techiques/strategies so they can bring new ideas to change the business in which they already work, this is the problem with RM if they have no management techiques or strategies the place is not going to run right and managers that have no management techiques will just resort to workplace bullying because they do not have no management skills and this is what is happening within RM I believe if all managers were to go on a management course at an independent college their unacceptable behaviours would change.concerneduk wrote:SpacePhoenix wrote:I personally think that any manager should work their way up the ranks and should have a reasonable amount of experience of all aspects of the area that they manage.

If graduate mangers where sent out on delivery, they would just leave after a couple of daysRicky Bruch wrote:Simple answer is to make all graduate managers spend the first 6 months of their careers at RM doing various jobs within the company to find out what exactly each job entails. That way all these ideas of grandeur they have will soon have a different view when they are walking the streets in the pouring rain with still 6-7 bags of mail left to deliver & not having taken a meal break because there is n`t enough hours in the working day to do the job 100% correctly.

Yes! you are totally right, they should do the job of a postie (e.g. deliveries, logistics and mail centres)for 6 months we would probably get a better breed of management that as respect for its employees.Ricky Bruch wrote:Simple answer is to make all graduate managers spend the first 6 months of their careers at RM doing various jobs within the company to find out what exactly each job entails. Re: graduate managers
Lets get down to the basics on this one, I agree that there are some really tosh ( rubbish) managers out there, but like any leader would agree, your only as good as the team that is beneath you, and in the case of royal mail, thats the work force. The work force must take a lot of blame for the current situation this business is in, especially the units out on I/A. The unit and area I work in work a darn sight more efficient than the offices I have recently been to help out on I/A, its about time these units excepted these changes and started getting paid for a decent days work. Its about time these units are being hit with large business plans, for year on year we have had to hit our numbers ( 5 % ) on business plan, when the current I/A units just memtioned the dreaded I/A Ballot and were left alone. Let start to run this business as if it was your own, then, would you put up with the practices that happen? , I dont think so.

Re: graduate managers
If there's too much work then how can anybody meet these targets, 6 hour deliveries and an expectation to do lapsing just creates an angry and disillusioned workforce. If I was to run my office as if it was my own then I'd reduce the manager headcount and employ more frontline staff, I would also ensure that all the duties where equal, not the vastly different duty sizes we have now because of Pegasus. Plus, I would ensure that everyone had the proper equipement to do the job, not the bags that last a week, the vans that don't start to fall apart after a couple of months (Fiat Douchebags anyone).jumbo137 wrote:Lets get down to the basics on this one, I agree that there are some really tosh ( rubbish) managers out there, but like any leader would agree, your only as good as the team that is beneath you, and in the case of royal mail, thats the work force. Dead right I wouldn't.
Postconn could kiss my arse but I'd stop delivering all DSA mail immediately. All DSA customers who then wanted to return as RM customers would be required to pay a punitive charge until all lost revenue from past DSA mailing has been recouped ;all surplus profits from this to be reinvested in the pension fund.
All mailings from our major customers;banks ;utilities;insurance firms;would be subject to an immediate doubling in price in order to bring RM's charges and revenues into line with other European operators. This would level the playing field across Europe and create the necessary market conditions to promote competition, whilst at the same time would transform RM into Europe' s if not the worlds most efficient postal operator .
The surplus provided by this near 100% increase in revenue would be used to fund a 25% pay increase for employees;new technology would be fast tracked with the aim of reducing the working week and improving service levels, the pension fund would be properly funded;Social mail would be free and SME mail subsidized to promote business; a contingency fund would be created to smooth volume and revenue fluctuations and when funds permit to purchase rival operators and introduce the new RM model,I could go on

Re: graduate managers
Like some of your responses, but you still dont get it, do you!!! So let me put it to you again, "the vast majority of units with the biggest gripes dont work hard enough, i,ve experienced it at first hand, thier a bunch of lazy so and so's, doing sod all whilst the rest of the country make the sacrifices for them" hope that does'nt hurt too much, but if it does, like they say, thruth hurts. Sorry to be so blunt, but get real.

Re: graduate managers
Ah I get it ,that old divided they fall chestnut. Is this the bit where we get told that all the walks in London and the 500 other offices only take 90mins to complete
You might be getting confused, when you go in blacklegging they only give you one fifth of a walk to take out.
