Begs the question how big are these walks? There's not a cat in hells chance of anyone doing anything like two walks in our office let alone 3 - they may manage a cut off but 3 walks FFS - no wonder RM are on about Spanish practices, remember the printers - they were paid for x numbers of workers when only y number were actually working and the rest was shared between them.bexhil palace wrote:We've got guys doing up to 3 walks some days![]()
God help them when the docket goes as it surely will.

Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
I stopped doing overtime for these w*****s when they removed the nights from my office. I haven't done a stitch of overtime in about 2 years. It's hard to live without at first, but you get used to it.

I don't do O/T. It would be nice to have the extra money but you should'nt rely on O/T.

Why take a job when you know your hours arn't enough. You could always get another little partime job. At least you would be guarenteed the hours then.Thats what I do.ad0128 wrote:part-timer

Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
I work 30 hours and not one minute over. I haven't done o/t for years and I can manage. Rent, council tax, shopping for a family of 4, run a car (but not for RM). Don't go crazy with my money and grab a bargain when I can. It is possible to live without o/t (especially if you are working 40 hours), if it's not, then your in the wrong job.

Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
I do overtime, not a lot but enough, it just get banked away, never spent, I work off my basic wages, the extras is for rainy days and paying a few big bills off, I try to be sensible with my money, spending in the same way as I do with only my basic wage to work off.
One thing I have noticed is with some people, the more they earn the more they spend, so it always looks like they are always short and need to do more work.

Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
I can survive fine, wihout my SA. But that's because I use it for extra spending money, rather than paying any bills. Then again: I only do 8 hours. There are plenty of Posties who're on Part Time Contracts, and have no option, but to use OT to make ends meet.

Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
Im on a 22.5 hour contract. The only reason i took this job was because i was made reduntant and was in need of a job. There are not many other jobs out there and even if they are they are only minimum wage which when you get the money works out at about 25 hours of what you get paid for working for the royal mail. When i do a basic week i get around 160 and luckily for me i live with the parents so i dont have any rent or bills to pay but I when i was in my ol job i was getting 300 a week after tax and i only wish now i was saving then but i had just turned 18 and all my money went straight away on beer etc.. Im 19 now and have been seriously looking into getting a flat with my girlfriend, shes at uni so we need a big space for her work stuff. Every flat of a nice enough size in an ok area is minimum 110 a week, so that leaves me with 50 pound a week for bills food and everything else. The girlfriends money goes on her car and her uni stuff so i cant really expect her to pay and i wouldnt want her to anyway. So I am saying if i didnt do any overtime and i got into a flat i would be screwed! So i do not have a clue how any people also on a part time contract can afford these things. If i did get a flat i would look to do as many hours overtime as possible so as to be able to afford things. I just want a full time contract for god sakes!!!! But the answer to the original question is yes i can survive without O/T but if i was in a flat the answer would probobly be no!!!

Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
They rely on Tax Credits, to make up the extra. But if you do overtime regularly, you loose that money, as it's based on what you normally earn, rather than what you get on a particular week. It's a dangerous gamble, that could cost you your Home. Unless you just refuse all overtime. And you'll soon become unpopular with the DOM, if you do that.

Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
Its bloody hard to get started on a Part time contract. Can you drive ? If so have you thought of approaching your DOM to see if he would consider you to take the RM driving test? May open a few more doors to full time ? If not best of luck anyway matematt3c wrote:Im on a 22.5 hour contract. Re: SURVIVE WITHOUT O/T?
On a p/t 25hr contract, luckily I don't need the ot and refuse it 9 times out of 10 when offered and cut off quite a bit sometimes but every so often I go through a spell where I do a bit but its my choice and just put it towards my next hol.
