I think that was a rumour put about by the Tories years ago, in response to rumours about
Portillo being gay, as Brown was unmarried at the time.
Charlie Whelan, his spin doctor arranged for papparazzi to photograph Brown having dinner
at the Ivy restaurant with a young lady to counter the allegations, and then made a big fuss
about Brown's privacy being invaded to ensure maximum publicity (he later admitted this).
Of course Brown has since married and had children. One of the reasons Brown didn't get
the Leadership after John Smith's death was that it was thought that a single man might
be suspect.

It really depends on what 'comes' first country or a frolic with another of the same sex and forever watching your back for someone to find out and blackmail you to gain political favours ? do we not rember all that have been put in a position of trust to be subjected to blackmailers or just some jurno who gained insider knowledge ....a mater of national security could be a risky situation

Even Brown wasn't elected as a Prime Minister, he was appointed but he is still an MP however there is a possibility he may lose his seat such is the contempt for him.

I think Brown was more of a born careerite bachelor . It's true that Brown had a grudge for years against Mandy for not backing him and Blair instead . Apparently a deal was done in a Indian Restaurant , Blair was very canny in getting out at the right time .

They had to keep Prescott on long past his sell by date to act as referee if you will , between the pair of them . Prescott was a randy goat , it amazed me how long that was kept down . Pauline allegedly had toy boys , she was " glamourous " in a 50's Elizabeth Taylor way . Maybe a Bill & Hilary scenario

When the story with " Tracy the Temptress " broke , there was a lot of Tories looking for him as he'd seen off quite a few of Major's Ministers when he was in Opposition .

The bit about the Tories makes me laugh as Thatcher had quite a few public school queens in her cabinet , apparently they liked the strong woman image . As long as it doesn't frighten the horses as that actress said years before when there was a scandal in the Liberal Party .

What was objectionable with the Tories was the overgrown public schoolboy attitude of some - their sexuality was the least of people's concerns .
