But then again a dog may be dangerous to one person but not others, i delivered to a house with a dog loose quite a few times it was out, and never had a problem, one day came back from my day off to be confronted by the day off cover asking why there wasn't a dangerous dog card on the frame, i said never had any reason to as I've never had any trouble when it was out, even after this never had any trouble, the day off cover wrote out a dangerous dog card and stuck it to the frame, didn't do no good as the dom went there a couple of weeks later the dog tried to have him as well, i have changed rounds the new postie asked why there was a card on the frame as he hasn't had any problems either suppose some dogs just don't like some people.

The OP has been told by his DOM not to enter if a dog is out (correct) yet there is a post in the Union Room where the OP has been told by manager that he can't do anything about a dog until it bites someone (incorrect). A bit consistency please RM.

I will tell you this though. Regardless of what a manager or RM policy says ,if I feel threatened by a dog, cat, goose or whatever then they don't get any mail that day. Simple as that!
Brother 97gaz - It is not that RM as a business is being inconsistent their policy on dealing with dog attacks is quite clear. And for any doubters ask your lino or DOM for a butcher's view of the Dealing with Dog Attacks - Good Practice Guide which contains Royal Mail's Policy On Dealing With Dog Attacks on pages 4 & 5 and further A Good Practice Guide has been produced to support this policy.

The problem which you have already identified (manager incorrect), is that this particular manager hasn't a scooby, and probably hasn't even sat down and read through the policy and good practice guide in full, otherwise he or she would know that it is incorrect for him or her to suggest that nothing can be done about it.

i agree with that, i have had many owners with their dog say "dont worry he wont hurt you" but its when they r not around that u have to worry.
i was confronted by a doberman yesterday, it acted harmless but it sure didnt look it! it wasnt on a lead either as it was out in a residental area, not even where it lives.

i dont go near the dog if its loose, if that means missing 20-30 + delivery points so be it. Ive never been bitten (thankfully) and dont intend on it happening anytime soon !!

If there is a dog loose, then the customer does not get their mail that day......it's as simple as that.

DO NOT RISK IT!!!

There is nothing worse than someone getting a dog bite and then telling the DOM whilst filling in the ERICA that it doesn't normally bite  . You were aware of the dogs presence and still RISKED it. Take the risk away and do not enter any premises were their is a dog at large!! (any type....big or small)
