of course question i would ask who trains them not mgmt
rem they get extra payments and ours just end up doing their own jobs anyway
Work place coaches are for new starts only I thought.
No I asked ours - they also have responsibility for ongoing training of ALL staff. Just this week he trained more people on the PDAs.

Our work place coach is no more,in fact as i understand it he gave up because they did'nt give the chap the time even though it was built into his dutie,so we dont have anyone and like i said our DIM froths at the mouth at that T word.

We've been told it's zero training in our office now. If they want to put someone on something then they have to jig everything around so that everyone ends up on something they know...

We've not got any new starters though so no idea how they'd get round that.

Been in the job about 2 months now-no sign of a coach at our office.
Done 7 walks, had 3 days training for the first one and 1 day on another.
On the other 5 I have just been given the walk log and told to get on with it.

Training is on a diffrent budget so dont be fooled by some manager telling you that there is no allowence left for training anymore, one day they got told it was not there for the general lets get shot of some hours and abuse the budget which is what they had been doing.

The proformance standards has some old bit in it that covers training,i believe it went on the lines of,if the member of staff is new then 3 days will be given, that person would also be taken of the IPS for the first week so they could get use to the walk,it also said that if you are a new member of staff you should be left on the walk for so many months, this i believe was to get you use to being in deliverys, how ever if you are a regular postman/women of the long term variety i think you are given 1 day on a town walk,3 days on a rural, you should also be given time away from the IPS so as to get use to the walk frame.

I will try and get the right bits to give you if i still have them as we had the same problem in our office,i have found that it is a little handy to have the right bit as the DIM seems to froth at the mouth and the managers will use any piece of garbage they can to keep costs down as now they really have to prove that they are training and not just useing the budget as a way of loosing hours, makes the bulls**t that little bit harder to come out with.
This is why we have lost the work place coach they put it in his duty then made it impossible to do so he gave up its much easier to send staff out blind and not bother it also means that its cost affective, but its not because it now costs them more if staff are not trained, cant do the job, cut off bring the mail back and as long as you say you will try your best its on the managers shoulders you only work so many hours,

Anyone know what the score is for drivers training??

We've got a newbie who needs to be trained on 4 drives, what are we allowed, the DIM is moaning about who's gonna pay for it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

WE shadow someone for a week on one duty , then take over that duty for a week to a month or two then we are expected to do any of the other 80 duties in our office without any further training. You're lucky if you get a map. When you get lost or take over the normal delivery span you get grilled about the overtime as if you've stolen from Royal Mail. And you can't even think about cutting off thats a no no.

I'm an experienced postie and I regularly cut off, if they have a problem with it you just ask 'If you think I'm doing something wrong then I would be glad of additional training to let me know where I'm going wrong', that's usually followed by mumbling and cursing under their breath and then nothing more is said :chuckle
