I appreciate that it's down to management to deal with these sorts of issues, but I think what greynut is getting at is this:
that people taking those sly fag breaks during IPS time aren't 'getting one over on the management'. It's their colleagues who are having the p!ss taken out of them. When it becomes a daily routine, I can see how that can easily cause resentment among the non-smokers

This quite succinctly describes what I see as a major problem within Royal Mail at the moment. All the managers of whatever level are concerned about is getting the mail out the door. They are not in the slightest bit interested if people are taking smoke breaks or spend a long time in the bog, or that some take 5 minutes more to go onto sorting frames than the rest. There main concern is the mail and sod anything else, including life outside work, as long as the work is being done by someone.

If they could just understand that it they motivated their staff better, were less reliant on the harder working individuals, addressed issues such as excessive smoking and toilet breaks. Or if they made a genuine attempt to rectify unbalanced duties, disciplined staff when required, make workers feel appreciated, and listened and addressed genuine suggestions or grievances then they would get the flexibility that they are desperately trying to force on us.

Thats a day, at our place with some I work with. Now is that fair?

You still have smoke breaks?!?!?
They stopped them in the RDCs years ago! If you smoke, you have to wait until your official break, or risk being done for "absent from point of duty"! Why are you still allowed to have them?
That's just not fair!

By the way. I used to smoke, but stopped a couple of years ago.
