If the managers were any good, they'd 'manage' to get all packets back and ready to be collected next morning.

In my area at least this has nothing to do with local or office managers. If we pouch our packets off at Post Offices or Post Boxes in our area they are collected and taken direct to the Mail Centre which is outside our postcode area( all 9 sectors) (about 30 miles) which serves 2 other Postcodes (1 with 7 sectors and the other with 30) and its own attached delivery office. With all that its nigh on impossible to guarantee that it will be back for 7am the next day. In fact we get 2 runs in up to 8.00 and another missort run at 9.20 so even if it makes those runs it will still be after the opening time of the callers office and they still have to book it in.

Sometimes its the scale of the task that's at fault rather than local management. If Area Management and National Management had not withdrawn nights I doubt if we would have this particular problem.

Royal Mail management, at whatever level, could, if they tried, ensure all packets are ready to be collected the next morning. It can't be that hard, with the vast resources, and the highly paid 'experts' available.

You can post something on the south coast, special delivery, and it's guaranteed to be in Scotland the next day, maybe even by 9am, yet 48 hrs to get to the local delivery office?
