Re: Lost duty in repick
Used to have this with a complete idiot on a van share. Everyone did it differently to him but he was adamant that until the planners came and told him to do it different and rewrite his frame he was going to deliver it from start to finish according to the frame as it wasn't his job to make it more efficient.
As much as he was an idiot....he kinda has a point. Why should we find the most efficient way to do the job. We are not paid to think and be efficient we just follow orders and do as we're told. When it all comes tumbling down who's the real loser us or them?

Re: Lost duty in repick
Who scans what parcel to their core route and if you scan it do you deliver it?

Re: Lost duty in repick
1) It really doesn't matter who scans the parcel to Core Route as long as it is scanned.
2) Scanning to Core route doesn't mean it is your parcel to scan on delivery.
Most people work as partners or teams together so only one person might scan to core route
whilst the other preps mail or helps sorting. What do you do in the scenario a driver has to
cut off and start only delivering parcels. Does he refuse to deliver his partners because he
didn't scan them to his core route?
I have lots to say about the incompetence of managers on here but posties can be just as bad.
Some of the questions are so childish.

Re: Lost duty in repick
No doubt someone will respond with well you are meant to scan to core route for one specific duty and it can
effect the timing for the estimated delivery window.
1) The estimated delivery window is broad anyway, normally giving the customer a time range covering 4-5 hours.
2) Scan to Core Route simply gives the customer notification that the local depot has the parcel and it is out
for delivery. It is essentially proof for management that the parcel is at the depot and has been scanned by the
postie and proof for the customer that the depot has the parcel for delivery.
Posties can scan for the two different duties if they want but for efficiency, particularly under DM26 it makes sense
for one postie to throw the one side of mail in whilst the other one scans parcels.
You will be taking parcels off another duty which yet another postie has scanned to core route so like I
say it makes no difference.

Re: Lost duty in repick
If I'm scanning a passport to my core route I want to be delivering it. I thought the whole idea of scanning your work to your PDA was accountability

Re: Lost duty in repick
Accountability is a part of it. It was just more efficient to have every duty scanning their own packets
than the people sorting parcels doing it. It was also meant to give a more accurate time frame when
scanned on the duty but I don't think this has materialised.
I understand what you are saying about important items such as passports but like I say DM26 is very messy.
So I would not get too preoccupied about who is scanning to core route.
Like I say everyone has had experience of being the driver and having to cut off to get tracked done.
Objecting to delivering your partners parcels whilst he carries on with mail would 1) Piss off your partner
and 2) will probably be dragged in the managers office!

Sorry I'm not just going to accept that DM26 is messy, if I scan a passport or sign for a Special Delivery I will be delivering it

Re: Lost duty in repick
Wait, so people in a shared van are scanning in to core route only the items that they will be delivering themselves? That's a pretty inefficient way of doing things.

So why ask the question?

Re: Lost duty in repick
Well under DM26 you'll be having bits off different frames to do, so there will be very little chance of being able to scan all your own items to core route.
In ours, people doing duties A and B will have to take 1/3 of duty C and 1/3 of duty D, so it makes sense for those sorting the frames to scan the items in.

Re: Lost duty in repick
Like many offices we are leaving walks in every day with only 1st class and Tracked being covered. The walk is prepped and the parcels left for whoever is doing the parcels to scan to their PDAPerseus wrote: ↑04 Aug 2026, 16:14

I thought it might stay the same but maybe not

Re: Lost duty in repick
There is 3 in a pod 2 van share and one singleton usually a hct,the singleton preps two frames to core route and other two(staff)one preps the other two frames to core route the other sorts.
