Re: Fully staffed, all pre deployment checks, review then repick…
If you ignore the jobs in the office like the rurals and firms deliveries, which won't be in pods, but will just take non-premium letters on half the job, I suppose the management will argue with 3 people doing 4 jobs, in currently understaffed offices, the office will magically be fully staffed - suddenly a quarter of the jobs won't have a member of staff dedicated to them. But failing to recognise that each member of staff in a pod will be expected to cover a third more delivery points each day, with either double or triple mail, day in, day out, even when what is due for delivery "clears".
So, for sake of argument, in an office where there are no rurals or firms deliveries (if such an office exists), unless the existing staffing level is more than 25% understaffed already, in theory it would be fully staffed with DM26.
DM26 is due to come in to our office late in August, but contrary to what the CWU assured us in the agreement, no extra jobs will added or reintroduced from the last revision. It's not even clear whether the current absorption jobs will be reinstated as a separate duty within the pods.
Surely it's a s**t show, on the two jobs in a pod, where three posties are clambering over each other on the same frame to both prep and bundle their third of the mail and parcels. To the people where DM26 is already a reality: how does that work in practice? And have there been fist fights on how to split the thirds fairly? Do the managers decide this, or do they just leave the posties to sort it out among themselves?

What they also do not recognise is that 2 people simply won’t clear packets across 4 frames and so the postie doing mail will be doing so at the expense of packets, 1 frame out of 4 will clear daily and the packets may get around 75% coverage and therefore will rely on a quiet day or overtime to rectify which are as rare as hens teeth with us

Were a trial office , observations there is one good thing its saves the company money, i was very sceptical before and my concerns are being realised , the van shares are really struggling mainly due to the quantity of parcels as there is 2 and 2/3 in there and logistically its hard to work in a van like that , the singletons have it better but then there is so much faffing about here there and everywhere , door to doors are a nightmare as you only have 2 days on half and 3 on the other this creates problems for rurals as you are going to houses with no mail but a pizza leaflet.
Saturdays due to low numbers of staff 2in 5 off and door to doors having to be prepped means you have bodies just prepping dtds all day and people going over there time delivering parcels on two rounds or bits on three rounds .
Sadly morale is at an all time low and this is July, really sad times and these problems should of been antisipated by people who earn a lot more than me.

D2Ds are likely to be the first casualty of the new delivery methods because of the time taken to prep and deliver. It's odd that RM want to defer the 2c to supposedly reduce the call rate and then expect their posties to deliver D2Ds which means that they have to visit every house anyway. And if you are going to every house with leaflets then obviously the loops are going to take a longer to deliver.
The fact that RM hasn't abandoned D2Ds is telling - they must still get plenty of revenue from them.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If door to doors had gone fortnightly rather than weekly it would be rather less of an issue.
But managers have never treated door to doors seriously (occasionally they pretend to when their arses are being kicked, but they soon lapse back).
They are always the first thing sidelined and 'resource' is never put back in to catch them up. Some managers still trot out the old 'you get the supplement for them so you need to put them in in your own time' line to any new starter who'll listen...
One the other week simply could not understand why town deliveries c.800-1000 delivery points were struggling with three door to doors while rurals with c.400-600 delivery points could manage okay.

Nope. Many managers still conflate the delivery supplement with a door to door payment.
I think the 'logic' goes: 'some staff get the delivery supplement. That is for door to doors. So it stands to reason that door to doors are not covered by the standard wage. So they are to be done in your own time whether you get the supplement or not.'
Obviously that is wrong, but I cannot help the imbecility spouted by certain managers on a daily basis.

Not just the managers - most in my office - legacy staff say it’s for d2dsDGH wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026, 20:09Nope. Many managers still conflate the delivery supplement with a door to door payment.

Quite frankly it's fraudulent of RM to be taking money for these to be delivered when half the office don't have the time to put them in the frame..

Very few D2D that I have ever seen seem to be handled directly through RM. Almost always it's Whistl Doordrop or The Leaflet Company on the cover sheet or D2D control sheet (been a while since I saw one of them) so those big prices are unlikely to represent reality with the DSA middlemen. I reckon only small businesses conducting relatively numerically and geographically limited drops are dealing with RM directly judging by some of the negative news articles in recent years.zacattack wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026, 20:16https://www.royalmailtechnical.com/rmt_ ... 026_v1.pdf

The attached document shows our postcode in the C band which seems to correlate with low population density, so it may be that DSA D2D is not as rampant in London or the Midlands as it appears to me.
The machine stops.
