Weirdly, at least in the mail centre where I work, Thursday night into Good Friday morning isn't automatically off. (Though BH rates get paid.) But the sliver of hours starting on Friday are.robriggs wrote: ↑04 Apr 2026, 07:34This will certainly be an eyebrow raiser for most of the Royal Mail staff. It is to me,had no idea this was going on. Am just thinking of the logistics involved. So I guess these parcels arrived at the said offices on the Thursday evening as surely no mail centre/wagon drivers would be loading / delivering Friday would they? Royal Mail staff would be needed to open the office, hand out PDA’s (Tracked 24 I am guessing is what’s being delivered),they would have to be scanned by these owner drivers, some form of basic training would have to be given for that surely? Royal Mail staff would be needed to scan and create a manifest route for these owner drivers right? Never in a million years would the union agree to this? Lots of questions.

Owner drivers do not use Liveried vans , but have on occasions been allowed to use one of Parcelforces if there is a problem with there own vanted_e_bear wrote: ↑04 Apr 2026, 06:38That's what I thought, I think the parcel force ones have liveried vans so you wouldn't know the difference but this sounds "evri-fied" if it's going to get rolled out I'm surprised we haven't heard of it
for a rental payment .
The agreement regarding owner drivers in Parcelforce is that only 25% per depot are allowed but we have about 35% and the union do nothing as usual .

Re: Owner drivers working DPR’s Good Friday
Wow,think I have been naive to what is going on regarding this situation. Having now seen the advertisement which somebody posted on here for “Royal Mail Sameday Courier” owner/driver jobs. WTF!! Of course you won’t need PDA’s and all that palaver, all done on personal phone. Union left back in the Stone Age. This is a major story really, the future has shown its face. Where is Dave Ward now? Polishing his CBE? Kretinsky showed his true self in Parliament the other day. Hard nosed businessman who doesn’t give a f***. In 4 years he doesn’t even have to pay tax to the UK exchequer. That 5 year tax agreement should have set alarm bells ringing at the time.

RM "Sameday" has apparently been going for 20 years, the OP is talking about a completely different role where owner drivers seem to be doing DPR duties, not sure if this is widespread across RM or just restricted to one DO or Region as some sort of trial?

Alarm bells were ringing from day one but not a lot anyone can do to stop a billionaire buying a loss making company that nobody else wanted.
As soon as RM was privatised this was the route the company was headed it's just taken a few extra years to get this far down the line

From previous posts the OP works at Southend which was/is a struggling trial office

Same story today BH Monday
And we’ve had DP drivers (27 official DP duties + 10-15 lates) told that “some” will be moved to walks whilst OD and poss agency will be doing DP duties

Re: Owner drivers working DPR’s Good Friday
To be fair, we are talking about Royal Mail Sameday here, which is a courier service akin to that provided by Citysprint, Addison Lee, eCourier (also owned by RMG) and others. Sameday couriers do not deliver mail or parcels on multidrop routes like we do. Their role is to pick up an urgent item from Point A and immediately deliver it to Point B. They do a completely different job to us.
