In fairness in our office it’s probably the easiest time we have ever had, managers have completely given up and say it’s too much as well. Just do what u can do and it’s not questioned, there’s no pressure from managers. We do have a strong CWU branch which helps but we are just left to get on with as much as we can do. Most are happy with that.
In the past week it seems our managers have given up as well due to the amount of parcels. Same thing said which is do 1st class, specials, 24s etc and just do what you can with the rest. I tried delivering in the dark a couple of times last week but it's a pain and takes too long looking for house numbers in the dark on walks you're not familiar with. Frames are getting rammed with letters, no idea how it's going to get cleared if the parcels don't drop off.
I'm sure this year the tracked have got bigger and hardly any will go through a letterbox which adds to the time.
I been on RM 18 years, I try my best to get round, never been one to go against management taking the approach of if they ask me do something i'll do it and if it fails then it fails. This week I was admitted to hospital and it's kind of opened my eyes just to how much RM really don't give a f**k with one of the managers saying i'll be fine in 24 hours do your best to try and get in, ended up needing an operation.
So I think i'm done. I'll recover and start looking for something else that maybe is a bit more useful to society rather than shoving junk mail through peoples letter boxes day after day.

Same here, the streamlining with parcelforce doesn't seem to be making much difference apart from making it worse with having their massive collections.
Echo the thoughts of everyone above. The job is f***ing s**t and it will only get worse next year whichever form of uso change we get. I’m approaching my 40s in a couple of years and I don’t intend to be working for this gruelling s**t show by then. Fingers crossed this is my last Xmas here.

I am awaiting a shiz show with the USO change.... and that could be the end of me at Royal Mail if workload most days is impossible.

Im lucky im nearing retirement, and I have always had a good mind set to cope with trying to do the job properly and just work my time. Its quite sad to see dedicated posties who are so desperate to complete their deliveries, stressing and literally running around for a company that is setting them unachievable workloads. No wonder sickness is on the up.
Yeah pretty much had enough now too. Hated the job for the last few years and with a new @rse of a lino constantly winding me up it's becoming almost unbearable. Will try and hang it out until the new system kicks in (whatever nonsense they decide to enforce?) and then decide if it's really time to hang up my bags. Will miss my customers but nothing else!
My advice is get a private pension to cover yourself if you go early. Best thing I ever did. The idea of working to state pension age at 67 would fill me with horror. An avc and bonus payment is fine but a private pension is very flexible. Every 80p you put in is worth £1.00 straight off the bat . No brainer. Even if it ties you over from say 60 to 67 its well worth it..
What finished me was not the physical side. It was the mental side. Customers having a go at me because I have delivered to the wrong address. After wacking my brains trying to think what I've done , then finding out it was the afternoon staff. Or they scanned not accessible when the customer was in and couldn't be bothered to find the address. Scan in scan out dog sticks Hi Viz scan 24 leave 48 . Throw parcels out. Today take them. First class only door to door 6 lots. They must go... leave them Door step. Don't door step As someone said. What should be the easiest job in the world is made incredibly stressful by people in suits trying to justify their jobs.
They are still trying to justify their jobs with a WTL meeting every week for 20-30 minutes.! Time that could be spent sorting instead of listening to absolute wet wipes!
Left 2 years ago. There’s nothing positive left to the job anymore.
Early finishes = gone.
Easy tuesdays - gone.
Staying on the same duty - gone.
Achievable workloads - gone.
Christmas tips - gone.
Union - useless.
There is no future at Royal Mail. Unless your holding out for retirement, get yourself on a new career path early next year. It’ll be the best decision you’ve ever made.
its actually been quite easy this christmas in my office we are clear nearly every day, the mails been so low, that the increase in parcels has had literally no effect, its the easiest time of year as theres no lapsing or workplanning other walks and everyones in, just not sure why the mails so low, quite enjoying it , be shame when its over back to lapsing

Mail in mine hasn't dropped off. Regularly having 2-3 trays of sequenced and loads of loose

Your DO must be in a depressed area of the country as we're getting so many parcels it's almost impossible to deliver any post, even if it is lower than last year.
