Re: Royal mail cant recruit
Just had 8 weeks off, came back to 5 new faces (50 roles in DO, still 6 vacancies) and one of those leaves this week. Turns out I failed to meet and greet two newbies in the meantime.

Re: Royal mail cant recruit
There is a list of allowances on a thread somewhere that a few of the senior posties are still on so it's not exactly a new thing although I can see why it's grating

A 30 year man likely to have different allowances to someone on 10/15 years
Never mind a new entrant
And look at agency rates

Workplace coach money is a huge waste of money £48 a week , for weeks / months not doing anything for it. Not their fault, but we have 4 thats £10k a year , times that by all the DOS in the uk !!!!! They know how to waste money

One of our 4 WPC's is a non driver, so we recruit 3 newbies at a time so he only gets to "train" people when they can do all the driving for him, occasionally they send him 3-in-a-van with a driver and a newbie, meaning the driver is doing at least some of his coaching for him!Chelseablue wrote: ↑01 Nov 2025, 18:33Workplace coach money is a huge waste of money £48 a week , for weeks / months not doing anything for it. I can beat that, one of our 3 is the locker guy who apparently can't possibly do a duty so just about the most training he ever does is how to use a PDA and show someone where the bogs are, I can't remember the other 2 training anyone either as new starters get put with whoever's van share partner is on holiday.Kenfandango wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025, 10:01One of our 4 WPC's is a non driver, so we recruit 3 newbies at a time so he only gets to "train" people when they can do all the driving for him, occasionally they send him 3-in-a-van with a driver and a newbie, meaning the driver is doing at least some of his coaching for him!Chelseablue wrote: ↑01 Nov 2025, 18:33Workplace coach money is a huge waste of money £48 a week , for weeks / months not doing anything for it. You dont just look at your basic pay, you also have to take into account sick pay (yes there still is some), holidays, and more importantly your pensions.

People would be workplace coaches for free as you only have to do half a round when coaching.Chelseablue wrote: ↑01 Nov 2025, 18:33Workplace coach money is a huge waste of money £48 a week , for weeks / months not doing anything for it. What happens anyway is the new start gets put with the workplace coach for just 1 week and then gets palmed off to a regular postie for 6 weeks and that postie has to go out and do a van-share with the new postie who is inadequately trained and having to learn a new frame and new round....and that postie gets sweet F.A for the several weeks of training they do.

Re: Royal mail cant recruit
Worst time of the year for increased workload, bad weather and constantly feeling slightly under the weather for experienced posties never mind new starters.
For every 3 new starters we average about 1 staying on.

Re: Royal mail cant recruit
Never had an issue with training someone back when we were on foot as it meant we'd both be finished for lunch! On P&L it's thoroughly awkward and there's nothing to gain as we can't sign out before 1537 anyway
The machine stops.

Re: Royal mail cant recruit
But if you’re looking to leave in the new year none of that would matter?
Work all you can from now until Xmas on agency rate and then bugger off after Xmas.

Re: Royal mail cant recruit
To me it’s more a case of Royal Mail can recruit but can’t retain.
