If I was on the dole in 2025 and the Job Centre tried to dissuade me from applying for this job they'd be absolutely right to do so. That they did that twenty years ago seems completely inexplicable. I loved it until P&L.

Grass was never greener..now the grass is usually greener.
If this was a Monday to Friday job it wouldn't be so bad.
95% NO vote tells you all you need to know about this job now.
10 years ago this vote would be in the majority of YES voters.

I said yes. Sure, duties have got bigger and workloads have increased, and often the management makes a simple job harder than it needs to be. But despite all that I actually enjoy being outdoors with no real stress. Even with the increased workload no one can actually be forced into doing overtime. Like it or not, the business is changing and we either adapt or look elsewhere. Pay isn't amazing but it's not exactly the most skilled job out there. If you're young and ambitious you would be better off learning new skills and qualifications for a proper career. But for me personally, I'm happy doing what I do as it is still the best, least stressful job I've ever had.

Come in and do the job and it’s still simple, get through probation period and then simple “this is what I’ll get done today” don’t take the piss and don’t flog yourself and hardest but most important of all nowadays the customer is not your problem or responsibility.

Recommend to who exactly?...

Low skilled people that have no career prospects and are ok with earning a low wage?.... yes

I'd recommend the job but I'd be honest and warn them about all the awful parts of working for the company which will probably put them off.

It was never about skill. We were 50% above minimum wage (for which the company boasted about as recently as 2018) in order to attract people to a highly physical job. Surprise, since then they can't keep staff on minimum wage + change for a Freddo.
