Will duties even exist in a few years? The way it's going I can see in both MCs and DOs each day staff getting told what work area (walk for DOs) they they'll be in/be doing for that day.

With no experience of an area, Its slow work. RM would implode with such a model. It probably thinks that its that easy but the amount of productivity they would lose for such a needless exercise would make it pointless.

December is the timeframe given to reach all the agreements they had discussed back end of last year.
Pay would be top of the agenda so it doesn't mean it won't happen until December.
Some will hopefully be fast-tracked like basic pay.
There were other agreements reached like re addressing overtime rates and equalising contracts.

If the workload is unachievable just take back what you can’t do. It’s not the old days anymore where you had a manageable day’s work. Double mail every day? No chance.

Latest pay offer of 'around 4%' was rejected. CWU believes they can get more, but who knows anymore.

I'm not surprised people are questioning everything, but it's undeniable that the CWU have misled the members on the timescale of getting this years pay deal over the line.
Back in December 2024 there was a much trumpeted 'groundbreaking deal with EP group' - this was said to be ready to go as soon as EP group took over.
The CWU on countless occasions quelled any grumbles about a pay deal not being forthcoming due to the political situation in Romania causing a delay in EP group being given the green light to takeover. They made a big deal about this, remember. Since then there has been 3 deadlines given by the CWU which have came and gone, the reasons being that they have knocked back several pay offers, with the latest being around the rate of inflation. This again kept people onside as it made them think, ok just a few more days and we will have a 4% backdated payrise. Then the hammer blow this week that they only NOW, THIS WEEK have started formal talks with EP group. But don't worry it will be between 3 and 6 months, but probably sooner.
I'm just surprised they haven't used the war angle again, they used the Ukraine/Russia conflict a few years ago, remember?

:Applause

Aye, makes you wonder what exactly were we being sold for the past 6 months.

Where does it say that only now, this week they have started formal talks with EP group?

Here

https://cwue5.org/2025/06/13/royal-mail ... otiations/

This confirms that formal talks with EP Group only began this week after the takeover was completed on June 2 and directly contradicts earlier comms suggesting deal terms were ready and only pending transfer formalities. There was no complete, ready to sign agreement back in December.

Why? I guess because it's the Union's main bargaining chip they have decided to add other factors in the agreement other than pay like improving VR terms and sick pay as well as pushing for section 5 reviews OR Kretinsky is playing hardball. Whatever the reasons, the CWU really should have separated the issues and focused on pay first. Now the longer the delay the stronger RM and EP Group's hand becomes because the reform pilots are still continuing and RM is getting what it wants without giving anything back. The pilot might only be in over 30 offices but RM already has a head start when it comes to rolling out the changes. By the time any deal is agreed, much of the groundwork could already be laid and that is not how leverage is supposed to work.
