Remember the CEO at the select committee attitude to sickness.. Smirking that sick staff are essentially taking the piss. Goal is to 'encourage' you back to work?
By hook or by crook they want you in. All psychological tools and subterfuge will be used when you're not well enough to deal with that kind of soft bullying...Promise of altered duties and support that vapourises in a flash when you drag yourself in. Your performance will suddenly be an issue and then you have them looking at you with a face like cold sick when you're struggling like hell. Not worth it.
20/30 years ago, face to face would always be at your home and after many months of sickness. The rise of HR and aggressive management of resources has resulted in the farce of the current situation.
Be nice. Say you can meet them at home. Otherwise say your not fit to drive/ wait for a bus or whatever applies. Be honest about it. Don't say what your best 10 minutes looks like when you're sat around resting. Refer back to doctors opinion and say you're following their advice. Follow up with an email summary.
If they railroad you into something which on reflection you realise isn't going to work say so in writing.
