write before i go out
If I have time I write out all my form lefts and sort them into the frame - Its good when its raining as the forms are already done and you don't have to struggle with the wind and rain. Although you do feel like your wasting time waiting for them to answer instead of giving them till you have completed the form.

Re: write before i go out
Does your manager let you do that in your prep time? Ours goes spare if he sees anything like that, tells you to stop wasting time and get out there. Mind you, he does that with door to door prep too.. :lfoTrueBlueTerrier wrote:If I have time I write out all my form lefts and sort them into the frame - Its good when its raining as the forms are already done and you don't have to struggle with the wind and rain. Feels like a bit of a waste of time (and paper) writing excess ones out, unless you know they'll be out of course.

When you ordered your uniform did you order blue shirts (don't know if RM are still issuing them) or the red polo shirts? The blue shirts have pretty good pockets I find, though having to fumble through 3/4 layers in the rain is a bit of a pain.cj_1985 wrote:thats the same style as the one iv been using that i borrowed...smarterdarter wrote:I think mine must be old style fleece it has a different material on the shoulders and on the elbows,
with the RM logo on the breast pocket
so what am i gonna be issued with then?
well if thats the case any more P739/Shut Notices i get will have to go into the bag.... atleast for 6 weeks...
To clarify, the first fleece didn't have a breast pocket, the second one did, but had very small side pockets. The third one has both a breast pocket and deep side pockets. You should get the newest one. Shame they don't do the Harrington jacket anymore, short sleeve removable lining (you could use as a waistcoat) decent pockets, two inside pockets, light weight. No need to ask why they discontinued it! I've still got mine though I look like a tramp when I'm wearing it as it's falling apart.

Re: write before i go out
No ours are very particular and only lets us out at the agreed time. Can be a right pain on quiet Tuesdays when sorted and thrown up by 8.00 and still they wont let us out till 9.30ish. Never had complaints about D2D prep either. Mind you since I came on here and whenever the boss gives duff gen, I correct him so either he knows I know my rights or he sees me as a PIA and lets me just get on with it. It does waste paper but when I get home I shred them and my nephews use them as bedding for their gerbils. On time it does waste it, but when its pissing down or windy there's is no struggle to write them out so I guess its swings and roundabouts.asbru wrote:Does your manager let you do that in your prep time? had 5 to order between red polo shirts, blue shirts with short sleave, and blue shirts long sleave
no idea about which style fleece... i hope to know on monday or tuesday.
as for writing the P739s out in advance... i was told by my trainer that we couldnt leave the DO till 09.30am.... never asked why but could be to do with her hours as i think she is a full timer... so if thats right why shouldnt you write them out in advance.... its not like its any easier writing them out on your knee

Times have changed, when I started I ordered 6 short sleeved and 6 long sleeved shirts (no polo shirts then), 6 pairs of trousers, 1 pair RM shorts (never, ever, ever wear them if you have any sense of shame) jacket/waistcoat, stormproof coat and waterproof trousers(?), winter hat, summer baseball cap, pair delivery boots and a pair of delivery shoes! That was only 7 years ago, seems the penny pinching isn't only with part time contracts then. Oh, uniform usually takes about 10 days to get to you and watch out for the Magnums!cj_1985 wrote:had 5 to order between red polo shirts, blue shirts with short sleave, and blue shirts long sleave

P739's, you'll soon work out the best system for yourself, what works for one may not work for all, try and see what's best.

The trouble with pre-writing your 739's and putting them in your bundle is that some posties forget to take them out of the customers stuff when they hand the packet over and some customers being a few sarnies short of a picnic then come into callers to collect the packets they've already had.

Yes blue shirts are still available, I don't know if they're offered by default since I asked directly for them last week and received them within three days!pinstripe wrote:When you ordered your uniform did you order blue shirts (don't know if RM are still issuing them) or the red polo shirts? The red polos are fine during Winter but far too hot in Summer, so I ordered Men's Short Sleeved Blue Shirts ready for the Summer period. The problem with them however is that P739s cannot be fitted into your left breast pocket due to the inclusion of stitching for the integral pen pocket. This means that only the right breast pocket can be used, a bit of a problem for left-handers, not withstanding the stupid buttonholed lapel directly above and covering it, (also included on the red polos), which serves no purpose.
Lets just hope that the new, whenever we see them, army style trousers with side pockets specifically for 739s, have them on both sides to cater for those who carry their bags on 'the other side'. I cannot believe to be honest the the Royal Mail are 'leftist' and do not offer uniform equally for both left and right hand dominant employees.
We have at least a couple of left-handers who I know actually throw-in their mail back-to-front compared with the majority in our office, but I do wonder if all of those new part-timers who get paid only to set-up and deliver are struggling left-handers having to cope with right-handed mail!

No, I agree with you on this one, RM treat all employees the same now, badly.Himaggen wrote:Yes blue shirts are still available, I don't know if they're offered by default since I asked directly for them last week and received them within three days!pinstripe wrote:When you ordered your uniform did you order blue shirts (don't know if RM are still issuing them) or the red polo shirts? The buttonholed lapel is for the old style ID badge which breaks after about 45 minutes. The 'army' style trousers, well, I doubt we'll see them this summer.
Left or right handed shouldn't make any difference on your ability to do the job provided that any changes required are carried out, most noticeably on the frames. The real question is, do RM really care why an employee is struggling?

Harrington inside pocket or fleece chest pocket depending on the time of year.
They should make the bloody pocket on the fleece bigger tho as it's slightly too small!
If I've got a packet for an address I usually turn the first letter for that addres around in the frame so that the back is facing forwards. No need to write on the mail.
Nothing better than writing out a shut notice in the pouring rain is there...??

739 in the fitting at prep.
Instead of turning an envelope at prep for packets & recordeds, I put a 739 in the fitting then when I get to the address, hey presto I already have one if I need it!. Anyone else do this?
Please sir can I have more?
