150 posties queing up to book their parcels in on two computers ?
I'd assume you'd just indoor them with a PDA. They'll add an option. Like when you drop them at a post office after a failed delivery. (Though most people don't even do this.)

January for ours to close. been told when we try to deliver, any dispatched packets have a card put through customers door to say we will try a redelivery next day, if not in for second attempt, then it will be returned to sender. seems we are going the same way as Evri, DHS, yodel etc.
Who exactly is going to pay to return all these pkts to the sender? Numpties.

Thompson keeps saying 'this is what our customers want' to justify anything he does. But surely neither the sender or receiver would be happy with this way of doing things.

Heard the same at ours

Going to be some arguments when a floater leaves 40 parcels in a York next to you frame for you to reattempt the next day. No doubt No Answer on the pda will soon be the new inaccessible when people are pushed for time or management can’t cover them.

Bad move in my opinion as it's one of the few things we rival other couriers on and it doesn't cost extra other than putting a staff who is unable to do deliveries.

We should also go one further and create parcel boxes and PO boxes outside delivery offices, shopping centres and business parks where the customers can pick up their own mail and letters at their own conveniences.

Customers want flexibility, this gives them the option.

Pure cost cutting move…
Customers no way want their item returned to sender!
They want assurance that their item is kept safe at collection points, not left on the doorstep ,dodgy so called safe place or at a neighbour they don’t really like.

More pick up points are needed not dissolved!

In our office they're putting all large parcels back on to the dutys. Some of the walks are not achievable as they are, you add on the large parcels and the redeliverys and the extra administration work on top of that. Will mean even more failed loop or corner cutting.

Everything I read on this site seems to be about making the customer service worse in order to cut costs. There's only so much of that you can do of that and then you need up with MyHerpes/Evri level service. Royal mail will end up as just another s**t courier service like the rest of them.

If this comes in we will not be able to do ANY letters, our delivery will have enough pkts to take us up to our time!

Going by past posts it seems that DOs are split. Some are putting the large back to the walks, some are having the large done by the parcel hubs

This can only help , I know if i could not collect a parcel ,i had bought and it got sent back to sender.Because i have a job that prevents me from being home. i would be totaly pissed off.Just becauce royal mail are trying to save money on a valuable and well used service . This is another backwards move my the company. Plenty can be done to improve first time delivery especially for tracked when customers know they are on the way. We'll just end up dumping them off at a corner shop or at some locker on an industrial estate at the end of shift.

Other courier services have beaten us to that like Amazon lockers at Morrisons etc. One of our best assets was/is the callers office. Try deliver once, then it's up to the customer unless they request a redelivery. Surely it's going to cost more than one or two phg wages to re deliver an entire offices undeliverable pkts and then potentially pay to send them back.......and then lose that business customer when we start sending too many back. If I/we can envisage this why the hell can't the managers earning big £'s to come up with these ideas.
My prediction, in less than 2 yrs there will no longer be a company. It will go bust.

You’re right on every point.

But the irony is that if the company “took us with them” and introduced a policy of 100% safe placing. I.e this is what the customer wants, we need to compete, we will support you if it goes wrong…
Then the staff would be behind it fully.
We would embrace the “change” as we do with every change, accept it and do whatever we can to make it easier for our customers.

Instead, RM approach is to piss every member of staff off, railroad or weasel it in by stealth and make sure everybody abides by the rule of “malicious compliance”

Lions led by donkeys, never more apt.
