Surely it's down to there not being enough workers post COVID & Brexit as unemployment is at a record low so they must be working somewhere?
The effect of poor terms and conditions across most employers is that nobody sees the point of moving from one crappy job to another.

We don't have a major unemployment problem in the UK but we do have a huge underemployment problem.

Too many people not earning enough or working enough hours having to be helped out by the state every week just to survive.

That's why despite record employment the benefits bill just gets larger and larger.

The UK is one of the world's worst for underemployment.

Anyone who started at least as early as 2012 will have sunday working in their contract
That's a standard employment catch all clause.
It's not a compulsory anything clause.
Not overtime.
Not Sundays.

If it was obviously we wouldn't be having this discussion.
That particular clause has been in the contracts much longer, perhaps not in that exact wording. But importantly, it's so vague as to be meaningless. No minimum specified, no timeframe specified. It's there for managers to spook new starts into clearing the frame.
The machine stops.

RM want people to quit, especially the full timers. They'd have a 100% part time work force if they could get away with it. Makes you wonder if they are deliberately acting like dicks just to get people to leave? :hmmmm
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Since when has overtime been compulsory?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Senior management themselves have stated that a large majority of the workforce are due to retire within the next 10 years. After that, new starts will be on the worst terms they can get away with and the turnover will be huge… a revolving door. Sad really, as once I’m out the office and away from the office politics, I enjoy the job.

I can imagine in a few years time, Royal Mail having terms and conditions like Amazon and a reputation like Hermes.

For this reason, it is a condition of your employment that you are liable to work overtime and to attend at varying times on any day (including weekends. Bank and Public Holidays) as the needs of the service demand.
BS. The NCU tested this decades ago and it's nonsense. It's just a hang-over from the GPO days.

We have had 11 leave in 4 weeks. A mixture of part timers and full timers. Full timers with 10 plus years of working with Royal mail. We had 15 walks uncovered yesterday.
I've decided to quit after 30 plus years unblemished record. I wanted to get 40 years but my head won't let me. I've just sat here on holiday and written my resignation.
It was good while it lasted. 😌

I did nearly 40 years and like you just couldn’t take anymore all Simon and co want to do is get rid of all the full time older posties and replace them with part timers
I wish you well for the future and I hope like me you will discover it’s the best decision you have ever made :wave

It seems that the current staff shortage isn’t isolated to one office then and in fact a problem up and down the country. Is this part of their plan or are they just cutting off their nose to spite their face?

Struggle to see how it’s sustainable when we are headed towards the busier time of year. It’s laughable if they are going to try and rely on agency… our place struggle to keep them more than two weeks once they come in and realise what a shitshow it is…

i think they want r.m to sink to the bottom then split the company, keep the more profitable parcel arm and blame the unions and workers for failure. then the government will have to re nationalise the core mail delivery service essential for society. not all people are ready for on-line paperless sevices yet and rely on the postman who is weighed down with pizza leaflets and scam mail. bulk postings havent gone down, they turn up once a week, gap fillers on the frame "mails down" bollocks, bollocks, bollocks, feel beter now ! have a good evening fellow sufferers. x
ps. "sorters UP you know who you are, dont forget your lapsing and van checks" (if van faulty just click ok cos we dont have any spare vans)!!!!!

Some of the bulk postings might be down to the DTS system.

Each night after all the 1C and DSA has been run through iLSMs and IMPs a server goes through that data and generates a list for each batch of which DPs have got mail. When the batches get run on wave 1, any DSA economy (basically 2nd class DSA) and 2C mail where there isn't any 1st class mail for that DP gets sorted to a specific stacker and held to the next night when it goes back through on wave 1. That's repeated until day 5 when it gets released anyway

It has been RM plan for quite a few years now while sitting in their ivory tower
Many saw this coming - it is a predictable consequence of privatization (to be fair they would have done this pre-privatization if they could have got away with it)
We can all see where this is going - sad, pathetic and predictable
RM is being destroyed before our very eyes until there is nothing but a carcass left and the bones have been picked clean
Then the parasites will leave for the next company to destroy - vultures have to eat as well don't you know !!
