Whilst I don’t like the ceo and pretty much disagree with everything he says I have to agree with him on this one point. There would be no big drama or uproar from the public if letters were reduced to five days, at this point I think it’s inevitable.

Yet if you read any comment section of a RM news article without fail the public are moaning that their post is days late the lazy postman etc.

It's as if the public aren't just one undifferentiated ego mass.

If he says we need 25% of the "team" to cover Sundays that would initially suggest working 1in4 Sundays but this is likely to see a flood of flexible working applications both from those with genuine reasons like childcare and some who just don't want to work Sundays and you add in the non drivers who aren't much use on a Sunday the pool of available and suitable staff could be a lot smaller.
This could mean 1in3 or even 1in2 Sundays for some staff.

It's a certainty that those who were forced into different shift patterns during covid restrictions will be targeted first.

what would they do if a load of drivers decided to come off the driving? there's been a couple came off in ours but they weren't happy about it. medical reasons were quoted but i am not sure if you can just 'jack in' being a driver? can you?

Would these Sundays still be run from the lat offices like they are now? Our office sends volunteers to cover our postcode areas to our lat office at the moment. If this plans comes to fruition would that still be the case or would the staff who work in the lat offices during the week be expected to cover all the parcels duties on a Sunday rather than non lat office staff having to work from the lat offices? Or will all the offices be open with all the extra distribution etc involved with that?Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 13:22If he says we need 25% of the "team" to cover Sundays that would initially suggest working 1in4 Sundays but this is likely to see a flood of flexible working applications both from those with genuine reasons like childcare and some who just don't want to work Sundays and you add in the non drivers who aren't much use on a Sunday the pool of available and suitable staff could be a lot smaller.

The most recent are employed as postperson with driving - so no they couldn't just jack it in.
As for the others it depends how arsey they want to be - there might be non driving jobs still available but 50 miles away.
Carry on driving or face a long commute?

Nah like everything in Royal Mail seniority is king, so if you have been here 30+ years on a cushy delivery finished an hour early everyday your charmed life will remain unchanged. The rest of us better come to terms with working at least some sundays or find another job.

Easy way around this, all drivers run their van into a tree, get suspended from driving therefore no working on Sunday

And push up their insurance premiums. AFAIK any vehicle accidents with a works vehicle have to also be notified to your own insurersupershots wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 19:43Easy way around this, all drivers run their van into a tree, get suspended from driving therefore no working on Sunday![]()
They could get sent to any office in the UK where there's non driving duties to be covered
