Is the recruitment freeze business wide or just deliveries?
Probably business wide now. It's been about a year since we last took on anyone new. Often a 10-12+ casuals each shift. Don't know why RM don't offer contracts to the regular ones

It definitely looks like the new Regional Operations Directors have been given a remit to slash costs wherever possible.
Summer coming so yet more lapsing and failed deliveries

Royal Mail effectively saying that failing walks is ok -USO 100% is no longer compulsory. How can understaffed units perform efficiently with not enough hands on deck? What a s**t show.

Agency staff don't work in delivery.

It's not like an MC where you can just point people at the work and tell them what to do.

You put agency staff in DOs you get half the work done for twice the cost.

The idea that agency staff are a cheap alternative completely fails to understand how agencies work.
Yes, they do. We've had an agency guy in since Xmas
At best I would say agency staff can be hit & miss some of the ones we had packed it in after a couple of days others were pretty good

We had a sheet for working good Friday and Easter Monday, I'd say 30ish signed to say they'd work it, about £17 an hour if you didn't want a day back, came in today with a notice saying all overtime for Friday and Monday is now cancelled

Strange im in tomorrow.

Penny-pinching & profit, penny-pinching & profit. That’s all they know.
Does or will it ever get to the point that they realise that it’s actually a counter-intuitive way to run a business. Seemingly no foresight beyond the next financial quarter.
They will probably realise when it’s all too late, and nobody trust us anymore and our reputation is irredeemably damaged (if it isn’t already).

The point being no agency staff, not a single one, are going to be more efficient at the job than a fully-trained OPG. They can try and plug holes all they like, it’s costing them far more in the long-run. Hence my post about no foresight whatsoever.

Not having enough cover for sickness and days off, so some come in to 1+ days mail is the new profit scheme for depots and the company as a whole.

Extremely interesting if Super Si was to go down the agency route...

my experience of new starters - is they stay - if the rest of the team on-board them correctly - and don’t give them the worst route that no one wants to do - and no training so they feel like they are drowning from day one - we have an agreed onboarding process - but I rarely see it followed - one for all local teams to embrace - please let me know how you get on….

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We employed 3 staff in March as we we’re 4 short and have now 1 left as couldn’t stand it, our manager has been told he can’t bring anyone in even though e have now got 3 guys off on long sickness, he’s now told us from next week we have to lapse another walk! People are already cutting off on I’ve no idea how they can do it but according to him with economy shrinking we all have to do more!!

Exactly and the more work they push on to the oldies, the more the bodies will creak and the more sick leave there will be.
