I’m not debating cutting off or working over. I’m just questioning how the CWU saw this as a good deal. Whose side are they really on?

Terry was too busy grinning about how there would be a record number of revisions than he was to give a s**t about them working.

The Union's policies and procedures are not fit for purpose right now

The outdated over-running agreement, for example, which was devised back in the Bronze Age needs to be updated and brought forward to the 21st Century. How many times have I mentioned this?? Just telling the screws that you have a start time and finish time is not going to cut the mustard when they start throwing meaningless figures, performance issues and emotional blackmail at you, just so that you are forced to work over your time.

To be resolved in local offices with local reps. Yeah right.

This is never going to be a job where we all miraculously finish at the same time every day .Workloads are different every day and people understandably work at different speed due to age , health or choice.I know it’s a bog standard answer but regardless of what workloads Royal Mail put on you your finish time is fixed , so please just focus on that and let everything else take care of itself.

Yes but how the CWU assess that more work load in less time is a good deal?

Look the Cwu obviously have to make concessions to get a shorter working week and pay rises , not ideal I agree but we have a fixed finishing time and that over rides everything else.

Fixed finish times and manageable workloads mean squat when you have people working their break after having performance and traffic figures thrown in their face

This has been going on for the last ten years with lip service in addressing the issue

The only people who ever come out with the 'just work to your finish time' claptrap in our unit are the ones who were never under resourced for a single minute all through the pandemic and the revision that followed. People getting bounced all over the office at short notice doing 2-3 days mail getting told that it's ok, this vacant duty is easy (easy enough to not have gone out 3 days and also not have a senior member of staff demand to take it as theirs - THAT easy?)
Yet if they are off and a reserve 'works their hours' and leaves a street of mail on their duty they demand a full inquest.

What can the union do about people coming in early and working their breaks ? I’m sorry but some posties need to give their head a wobble and these are the same ones that will moan about lapsing , lost cause and most of them are senior men.

The theory is that there is less mail to deliver because letter traffic has gone down and most of it is pre-sorted into buddy trays anyway. Royal Mail also expect parcel sorting machines at mail centres to further reduce our indoor workload.

Royal Mail have always wanted us to more work load in less time. The only thing the CWU agreed was a shorter working week because without it, it makes larger rounds more do-able.

What about your mental health and job satisfaction if you're not the kind of person who can be assertive when management try to bully , threaten, blackmail you EVERY DAY just for wanting to finish on time?

Will that "take care of itself"?

Clash is spot on above. The cut off procedure is far too weighted in favour of unscrupulous managers.
