You would think if Royal Mail were serious about transforming their parcel operation, they would have poached someone senior from a competitor in the logistics/delivery sector, like DPD, etc? If this new bunch of senior operational staff get the standard of training the average postie gets, they won't have a clue.

Just shows exactly what Simple Simon must think of the current Management in that he has chosen no one previously employed by Royal Mail for a Promotion and employed many concerned in the Manufacture of Luxury Sports Cars very much a like for like business.

Why are all these new people from a car/manufacturing background?
.....
Possibly because car manufacturers have been at the forefront of Continuous Improvement and efficiency, Toyota
were one of the main companies that were big on this and I suppose that working culture transferred/was taken on
by Honda. They'll issue us with brushes next to stick somewhere so we can sweep the floor as we're moving around
the office.

As I have said before, we have historically been 100% optimised for letters, but we need to be 100% optimised for parcels to ensure we can compete, and win.
So 0% optimisation for letters?
So we're basically going to compete with the like of Amazon and DPD, if so, what's going to happen to the letter deliveries going forward? Do we even deliver enough parcels to warrant such a significant change in direction?

Our current mode of operation is that packets tag along with the letters. The company has repeatedly stated this is a great efficiency as opposed to operating two parallel delivery operations. Letters may have declined, but I've never seen a walk where the ratio was flipped. Unless they envisage letters being downgraded to the status of D2D and you only take it out the frame if that door has a packet (or by the end of the week).
The machine stops.

I am thrilled to announce that I have recently joined Royal Mail as Operations Performance Director with responsibility for driving improvement across the Operation. It’s a real privilege to join such a fantastic company and during my first few weeks I have already met some amazing people working across our Delivery Offices and Mail Centres taking the opportunity to listen and learn from the experts and I’m very much looking forward to more of the same over the coming weeks.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
