No, when you agree to do an SA duty you sign a seperate contract where you commit to do that SA duty for a set period of time.leefarrell26 wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 17:26I'm part time and always do my own prep in the morning. Is this classed as scheduled Attendance?

Re: LTB 581/21 - Resourcing Across Royal Mail
Well I had February on my RM vs CWU sweepstake so I’ve lost that.
So predictable. Is it now time for the fight of our lives, solidarity, rise up etc? I bet Uncle Simon is planning the £100 (pro rata) carrot to keep us at bay.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Did we look as if we were going to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat? Well not at our DO.
Maybe it wasn't going to be the almighty nationwide clusterfuck they needed to sell to Ofcom so they're moving the goalposts at the last minute.
That or they're relying on the inevitable drop off of mail post-Xmas during which we can play catch-up.
Come the revolution....

Hi all, to clarify - we have issued guidance earlier this week to support the local units as we prepare ourselves to move into the post-peak period. Using our existing agreements, we encourage the field ops managers (especially the DOMs) to review their resourcing position and work with the local CWU reps to determine the right mix between fixed and variable resource, keeping in mind our quality and productivity targets.
I will shortly be issuing a managers update to address the concerns raised in more detail.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Like ALL S/A?
S/A is used as a carrot in our place (like most others i'd imagine) to get people to do slightly awkward shifts (mid to late afternoon/early evening CSP etc)
Are they hoping the current holders of the SA keep doing it for much less per annum (IIRC they get it even when off on holiday/sick), or are they lining up some zero hour agency staff to do it?

SA in our DO is used for the afternoon/evening collections but nobody seems to have signed a contract to do it, just agreed they'll do it if asked to do so by the DM/DOM?A2B wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 17:30No, when you agree to do an SA duty you sign a seperate contract where you commit to do that SA duty for a set period of time.leefarrell26 wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 17:26I'm part time and always do my own prep in the morning. I was under the impression that if SA was taken away or you you no longer wished to perform SA, either party had to give 28 days prior notice of their intention.

Why doesn't the letter actually explain what's apparently happening? I assume it implies that notice is being given that SA is ending, if so, then what's replacing it as somebody is going to have to do the work presently met by the SA payments?leefarrell26 wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 17:07What does this even mean? Re: LTB 581/21 - Resourcing Across Royal Mail
SA is used to prevent part time staff gaining improved contracts.
There may be some instances where it is warranted but most of it is full time staff lining their pockets at the expense of their part time colleagues.
If they gave notice to all SA holders tomorrow I would be cheering them on.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That's fine until they then ask the p/t'ers to do it on the standard rate o/t rather than the enhanced SA rates presently being paid?clashcityrocker wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 18:53SA is used to prevent part time staff gaining improved contracts.

Does anybody understand when SA is supposed to be paid rather than just o/t? As I mentioned above it's paid for collections in our DO, I'm not sure when else it's paid?

Not sure how right this is...
CWU North East Divisional Reps.
Hi everyone,
We have had some clarity on the Royal Mail Finance strategy please see below and we have attached the LTB Terry has sent out on the subject below
Mail centres YDC’s and Distribution are not affected.
Scheduled Attendance will not be removed
Agency staff will be laid off in line with Xmas principles but where there is still a need they will be kept EG Coulby Newham and LAT work
FTC’s will be looked at but we have been clear that if through no fault of their own they are on a FTC and not permanent we will not accept them being dismissed
We have been assured there will be discussions at area level on this
There is not a total freeze on recruitment but they are reviewing it.
We must ensure wherever possible USO is not put at risk because of budget and if we need to challenge the recruitment process because there are too many vacancies which has an impact on USO we should use the IR Framework.
Thanks

Re: LTB 581/21 - Resourcing Across Royal Mail
So we hired more temps to keep us in line with the promises we made in public to keep the media and MPs happy. Now we are going to jettison as many of them as we can as quickly as possible. No need to worry about the mountains of undelivered letters, cards, flats and untracked packets. Why? We believe that if it hasn't been delivered before Xmas the public's disappointment won't be vastly increased if it reaches them days or even weeks after the fact. Having worked the front line into the ground in the run up to Xmas why not work them further and deliver the remaining backlog during the traditional slack post-peak period to keep them mean and lean after the trough-fest that is Christmastide? It will tie in with our new motto
Post All Year for Xmas Just In Case. It'll be fun, like the National Lottery but with prizes the public have already paid for themselves.
Thanks to our sales team for that great idea written on the back of a beer mat.

Incredibly, I think offices are allowed to CHOOSE how much SA they want. If that is the case then it's little wonder the bean counters are all over it. Not to mention that when it is abused, it stops PT staff getting contracted FT hours.TopperGas wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 19:00That's fine until they then ask the p/t'ers to do it on the standard rate o/t rather than the enhanced SA rates presently being paid?clashcityrocker wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 18:53SA is used to prevent part time staff gaining improved contracts.
