It won`t be happening. The overwhelming evidence to the contrary means that even our PM will extend the restrictions , however unpopular it might make him.

They do mention in their statement about plenty of other services who have to share vehicles are doing it, do you think they’ll say just wear masks with windows down etc… or maybe voluntary sharing again.

We dont HAVE to share a vehicle though.

Those other jobs mentioned do ( police, ambulance, driving instructors )
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

All the leaders at the G7 didn't bother with masks and distancing. There are loads of pics of them all mingling without a care in the world.

When will the penny drop with RM hierarchy that they might just have to come up with a viable alternative to van share.

Cucumber has hit the nail on the head with her comment, Royal mail need to review how well the current system works with single van use taking into account the ever increasing parcel loads. It may be fine if you are a walker, but I will not be happy being left to do all the large parcels as a driver on a shared duty.
As regards non drivers, why can we not push forward with the large assisted cycle/parcel rickshaws for them as i am fed up with watching them heading home at 1pm when the rest of the driving delivery teams still have work to do.

Saw pics of them mingling outside on the beach, but I would imagine the privileged ones are tested everyday.

Whereas most of our office don't give a monkey's anymore about sanitising, mask wearing, keeping a reasonable distance.
Overheard one colleague saying he's got loads of tests that we're originally ordered because his partner's a school teacher
but he can't be arsed testing himself twice a week......

They seem to have overlooked something in their example of Police and Paramedics who may be sharing vehicle space, there aren't many Police and Paramedics out on the road who are in the older age range who may suffer more severe illness, even if vaccinated, whereas there is a substantial percentage of posties who are in the over 50 age range for example.

"Both Parties recognise that alternative solutions to shared vans have put
a substantial strain on many individual colleagues and on the operation."

Over a year in and they are just recognising this?
I think it's pretty shameful to use the hard time that many staff have had due to the cobbled together response to ceasing van share as a good reason for it's return. Within a few weeks it became painfully obvious that there needed to be some creative thinking but all that's been done for the last 15 months is kick the can down the road every so often. I've witnessed staff leave the company/go on long term sick due to the 'strain' they've been put under.

SHARED VANS

Members would have seen the joint communication on Friday with regards to the return of shared vans. It has become increasingly apparently over the weekend that the government will almost certainly announce a further delay today in lifting the current restrictions.

With this in mind, the return of shared vans will likely be delayed. As per the Joint Communication issued on Friday we are meeting with the company tomorrow to discuss the impacts of this decision and will hold a live Q&A with members and representatives as soon as we are able to do so (the live Q&A scheduled for today at 4pm will not go ahead).

For now, current working arrangements should remain in place.

Have you a source that there is less older paramedics/police with health issues compared to RM? Plenty in my office refuse to get the vaccine, their choice, can't use that as an excuse to avoid returning to normal working practices. That said, unless parcel volumes return to precovid levels there is little chance our vanshares could fit everything in on 1 go anyway. If they've to return to office for what couldn't fit in the morning, daily cutoffs will skyrocket.

I didn't say that there was.
I said there aren't many Police or Paramedics out on the road who are in the older age range.
Average age of retirement for a Police officer is 55.
I don't see many older Police officers out on the road.
I don't see many older Paramedics out on the road either and only 21% of Paramedics remain in post until their normal reitirement age.

19th July

I will at least have a few more weeks of freedom!!

There will be a few posties with long standing health issues or who have had long covid and won't be too keen to share a van with somebody.

Question is - where will a postie stand if they point blank refuse to go back to van share??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
