Good to see the Irish took action back in 2001.POSTMAN wrote: ↑03 May 2021, 14:18Unbelievably there is a door website type place thingy...

And something I hadn't considered before regarding low-level letter slots, but it's mentioned on that Door Industry Journal site:The Irish government set a precedent for such a move back in 2001, when – after sustained pressure from postal workers and many injury claims - it outlawed the use of low-level letter boxes in the front doors of all new homes.
And the CWU raised the issue back in February 2018 on LTB082/18:Low-level letterboxes also present a security risk, as it’s possible for thieves to reach in and steal letters and packets that are sitting close to the opening.
LTB082/18 Low Level Letter Boxes and Re-Launch of the CWU ‘Low Level Letter Box Campaign’
But with the CWU's follow-up LTB142/19 ("CWU Celebrates Landmark Low Level Letter Box Victory as Government Prepares to Change Building Regulations To Help Postal Workers") in March 2019, nothing's been done thus far, nor has there been an update as to when the government will move ahead with the proposed amendment initially submitted to parliament by MP Vicky Ford to be included in the next building regulation or at least mark it on their calendar. This issue was first raised by the Union as far back as 1958 when the British Standards Agency deemed it appropriate that letter boxes be at a proper height. Unfortunately it was not enshrined into Building Standards Law. Sixty years later and several high profile CWU campaigns later, the problem still exists and the huge increase in house building over the last decade has in many areas of the country made the problem worse for postal delivery workers.

Re: letterboxes on bottom of doors
A customer was having a new door fitted a couple of years ago, letterbox was literally on the floor! The builder was there adjusting the hinges one day so I asked him why he put the box so low?
He said it had to go somewhere and shrugged, I said if it was such a great idea why didn’t he put the handle down there too!!

Re: letterboxes on bottom of doors
There was a low letter box on my old round. Right at the bottom with an excessive spring holding it closed. Brushes behind it with another flap they could lock! And an angry dog behind the door! Needless to say they didn't get much mail! And any did was damaged and only got halfway through! No wonder my knees are wrecked!

Re: letterboxes on bottom of doors
We just had a worktime learning this week on health and safety - and the bottom line is 'you are responsible for your own health and safety'
If you have back/hip/knee pain and think that bending down to a low level letterbox will make it worse (the newest models are designed to be wind proof, and make it very hard to actually POST through) then avoid it. Knock on the door, and endorse the mail as no access if there is no answer
Health is our own responsibiliy, Royal Mail cares not.
