Re: Bullying/intimidation
Most of the time they walk away by just telling them what they want to hear. In extreme cases where that doesn't work use there way of communicating back to them, there by bullying the bully.
Another technique that my buddy uses to great effect is to act like a complete dim wit by saying I still don't get what you saying or want me to do over and over. Watching a guvnor walking away in complete meltdown is a joy to watch.
I know its not for everyone and we do become a bit of a target sometimes but hey if while they are targeting us then they are leaving somebody less able to deal with "Culture" alone.

However, in some offices that isn't possible if the manager in question is best buddies with their DOM and you feel that they might round up and gang up on you in some way.
So best bet is the bullying and harassment helpline. It gets recorded and therefore dealt with properly.
Actually I completely disagree with you on this occasion but thanks for your outdated and old fashioned input.
This scenario is not the same when a manager is conducting code you and you are advised to bring in a Union rep. Most DOMs have been trained in bullying and harassment and its something that I know that Royal Mail take very seriously, partly because they need to show that they are making the workplace fair, giving workers confidence in raising an issue and to help prevent unacceptable behaviour.
The next step would be to ring up the bullying helpline.
The next step if bullying & harassment continues is the formal grievance process.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Outdated an old fashioned input wtf. yet in your own post you admit this might not be possible in some offices.postslippete wrote: ↑21 Apr 2021, 21:39aiden01 wrote: ↑18 Apr 2021, 21:34Never have a word in private always have a rep or colleague with you.postslippete wrote: ↑18 Apr 2021, 20:50Normally the best way would be to go straight to the DOMs office and have a word in private. If they didn't take it very seriously they wouldn't be doing it as often as they are.

Re: Bullying/intimidation
Most posties are male and therefore tend not to speak about problems or issues that they have. You know as well as I do that they are about as likely to have another colleague or rep in there discussing their problems as you are to admitting that you might have a problem. That is why the bullying and harassment support line was set up in the first place.
All I was pointing out to the OP was that DOMs are trained in bullying and harassment and RM do take it seriously. It might be the best call if your DOM is understanding and not some arrogant prick that doesn't want to listen. In which case you would take notes and ring the bullying and harassment helpline. It adds quite a bit of weight when you tell them that you have spoken to the manager's manager about it.

Re: Bullying/intimidation
There are roughly 12,000 managers in Royal Mail and some of them are even women.
How many have you met?

Since you're obviously struggling with the concept.circles wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021, 14:45And?Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021, 14:14There are roughly 12,000 managers in Royal Mail and some of them are even women.![]()

You've met a statistically insignificant number of managers in your career so your advice is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Telling someone to "man up" is about as useful as telling someone suffering from depression to "pull themselves together".
It is non advice displaying an astonishing ignorance of the problems people are facing.

Re: Bullying/intimidation
That is the worst advice possible and not very supportive either,
1. Man up indicates you think the person being bullied is weak, it's hardly going to instil them with confidence and get them to do what you suggest.
2. Don't you think most people that have been bullied, or are being bullied have contemplated doing what you suggest.
3. It seems to indicate you think only men are capable of bullying,
4. If you really wanted to offer valid advice, telling them to "man up" right at the beginning, and in such a manner, kind of ruins it.
The advice you gave, in some circumstances is probably valid, the way you gave it was insensitive and crass.
