Always on time or a couple of minutes late. Suppose to start at 5.30 but by the time I have sorted myself out, sign in - make tea etc, it is usually about 5.40 before i actually begin prepping my walk. :Very Happy

No point in getting in early. The mail always arrives at our rural office between 20 and 50 mins late.

Well I hate to admit it, but I do come in early, well first of all I am part time, but feel like a full timer, as I am in from 6am doing over time, but lately I come in before 6am because of the amount of work I have to do, I know I shouldn't, because it down to the managers to get their act together and get it sorted, but being new, I feel that little bit of extra time, kinda help me, but this week it hasn't made a slight bit of difference, as I been getting out after 12pm

We start at 6 and your right alot start before thier time 1hr or more in some cases but i dont i start at 6 not before thats what the company wants then they should deal with the cock-ups that come with it,this week they anounced that we could not go out until everyone had thrown off the mis-sorts talk about people getting up tight, the part time staff really screwed up because they got told that they were not to come in before thier time one lad got really upset about the whole thing, manager was about as understanding as a hole in the head.
Thats what it is to be so i really suggest that everyone takes on what is happening all over RM i think there is some very valid points in this thread.

when i was working at Glasgow Mail Centre i would leave home about an hour in advance as the mail centre was about 16 miles from home. (down country roads then onto the motorway , and then a dozen sets of traffic lights)
because of traffic and trying to get parked in the local tesco i would get into the mail centre about 20 minutes before my shift starts (if traffic is ok) allowing me to get a drink, and then use the loo...
by which time i would sign on when the sign in book was put out and then go up to my work area ... normally long before my line manager arrived and regularly had to set up the yorks for the sorted mail trays.

but im the same as many of you ... just dont like to be late.
but i dont start before im due to start.

as for the new job at the Delivery office... i dont know yet
ill tell you in a fortnight

In my office the F/T staff have reverted to earlier starts by 45 mins due to longs and shorts. DOM made it clear that NO-ONE was allowed to start early. They are not allowed to come in any more than 10 mins before they are due to start. Decent DOM and really good rep and the office works very well. Still see a couple disappearing on delivery early in their own cars though, even though they have been told that they will be C/C if caught doing so, but on the whole this system is working, so it is only a matter of time before RM stir things up.

but surely you can't go anywhere untill they put the cards out for specials, or does this just happen in my place. :hmmmm

The cards for specials go out as soon as the PHG has them ready. Management are trying a new system which ensures that missorts are taken out as well, by using a card that gets put out 5 minutes before they can leave, which they are meant to hand to the line manager. Doesn't always work though.

hi

my start time is 9am
i go in at 8.30 as the manager says i can

i absolute hate it :chuckle
i try and sneak in about 8.20 without anyone noticing it normally works.

few month back i was going at the same time as the full time people
7.15am
its alot better for me as i get my self organised with what im doing sorting mail etc...

now the manager has put their foot down i have to start later.
and the full time people have to throw my walk in before i get there.
as its to busy that never really happens.
so i find my self rushing to keep up.

Fair dinkum upper, and I know it ain't easy living on sod all,but all overtime given to RM is cheap labour: non pensionable,no stamp,no holiday entitlement, so if their paying you double time+ good.If not you are in a hole, still good of RM to give you a shovel

I usually turn up, between 30-45 mins early, in case there's problems on the Roads. I have a long journey to and from Work. But I only start, around 5-10 mins early. But that's just so I don't have to sit watching the clock, to avoid being late.
