We never got near to completing the old way of working on most rounds, mainly due to lack of staff. Now it is "nearly" clearing every day. The 50/50 rounds are completing comfortably even with extra work and taking out the mail on the light side of the round. Which is supposed to stay in the frame.
Surely that mail on the light side of the round shouldn't even be making it over to the frame? Shouldn't it stay in the 2nd IPS frame? Or is it because that 2nd class is being trawled through for coincidental mail on the heavy side and it all just gets thrown in anyway and the postie say f**k it I'm taking it anyway?

I think people are taking more than a passing interest in something due to what will happen when it fails.

Easy to say when you're on an achievable duty. Bit different when you're permanently surrounded by failed mail when someone else 3 frames away clears every day and finishes early. Saying that, I've now become normalised to the organised chaos on a daily basis :left:
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I will say, I have noticed quite a bit of truth to this locally. One aisle is paired town duties on one side and singleton mostly semi-rural/firms/just awkward duties on the other. The former at best alternates frames while the latter largely clears.

A large element of that must be the immense inefficiency of Park & Loop, which seems to be acknowledged in this plan to make every fourth duty a singleton. That is only made possible by non-driver numbers vastly diminishing across the last fifteen years. The final step, and the final low hanging fruit for efficiency, at some point further in the future would be converting all duties to solo driving.
The machine stops.

Not enough vans/yard space for every duty to be solo driving. One way to make it work is having a morning and an afternoon shift 50:50 split, like we had during covid.

This always amazed me. Posties worried sick the management brain dead ideas wont work. Posties who've done rounds for years know them in side and out. Well.just ask a manager every day what do they require you to do. Let them, with no experience of the round make the decisions . Then remind them. , you don't do overtime and fully intent to go home exactly on time. When the round fails , ask them to show you on the PDA and all other tracking they use , where have you gone wrong ? The point is make sure they understand any failure is on their half not yours. Also point out you start exactly on time every day and dont work up to an hour a day for free if they push the "well they can do it" line. In my years experience the majority of managers are clueless lazy chancers who couldn't do a round. They totally rely on who they can bully and the morons who work for nothing. . Stick to your times, do as they say and finish on time and they can't touch you.

Very true, and it where the idea of delaying second class to every other day was born from. Our office, like others has taken it to the extreme though, and it's not uncommon for 1 person to be left in charge of a whole shared van duty when their partner is off on holiday/sick. Maybe every third or fourth day they will be given a reserve to help them put a dent into the mail that has been building up. Hell, on paper DM26 should make the job 'easier' for an office like this, but we all know that isn't going to happen. Solo driving with every duty doing the 50/50 thing, or dare I say it 33/33/33 Mon-Sat is clearly the end game, I don't think it's very far away at all now.

Yes mail on the light side comes through in sequenced tray because it has reached it's time limit to be held in the MC. Then the posties are just taking it so they have less to do the following day and they don't have to go help out the pods. COM just lets them do it.

We scan every packet in MCs so RM must be able to generate a list of DPs which have got packets which they could feed into the DTS algorithm. I'm sure if they tried all flat and packet sorting machines could be modified to generate data which could be fed into the DTS algorithm.

In areas such as mine that were shafted by the last Network Review, AM outdoor work is almost completely abandoned now and core delivery runs so late it has already eaten into LATs time. We'd be more likely to see afternoon and evening splits.

In order to conduct AM delivery, packets would need to be ready long before 10AM which would require them to be in the building overnight which would require a night shift to sort them. That all flies directly against the company's commercial reasoning for pushing the Network Window later and later.

There's plenty of work that could be done in the AM and it wouldn't even need the use of a van except for conveyance, but fanatical committment to packets and once-over-the-ground and hiring only drivers means the letters in the frame will stay there.
The machine stops.

No it has been an absolute disaster, we are now out on delivery 6 hours. The light days are not so light, since you take the heavy parts of other duties and about an extra 300 doors to deliver, as for the heavy days on your own duty well they are a joke to much to many doors to many packets, then on a Saturday you have nothing to do except packets. So the story so far, bring half your duty back through the week as the distance and number of doors covered is unachievable and on Saturday come back early. Meanwhile all the posties are getting stressed by the sheer number of things they are brining back and having to justify it every day to an overweight lazy manager that has never done a delivery in their life ,that cannot understand why it cannot be completed. Lots of people ready to quit in my office, maybe that was the plan from RM and their stooges at the CWU after all.

My advice is go on the sick with stress then look for another job while you are on the sick as this job is officially the worst job out there for the pay you get and the now crap benefits.
