Bears and things!
...curiously, our driver was about half an hour late too: it seems it's happening in a lot of places; perhaps they're all getting into hibernation mode for the Autumn...TrueBlueTerrier wrote:First Letter 09:50 and last letter 14:00 - boss can't complain when I ask for a 1/2 hour back - he was the one late with the bag drop 1/2hr late![]()

No way hosay!
...well, it puts you between a rock and a hard place: you need to discuss it with your manager, I guess: but if there in no bag box or post office provision, then, what can you do?moggymoz wrote:...all well and good if you've got a pouch as big as a bus. only people i spoke to today where people asking why i'm so late
told them i'd do their street first the rest of week.........the guy on day off will love that
A big part of why i was late was.....never done duty before, manager didnt know where drop boxes where and how to split it, first letter 11.20, it was pissing rain, half of second bundle had actually been demolished and didnt exist (well some did)
and i was so late service buttons were off......which caused further lateness. Booked 90 minutes £££££
tuesday......bring it on........double duty me!!!.......give me some lapsing!!!!! i dont need a break......i'm hardcore!! Dont worry i'll walk back to office and carry me drop bags out on my bmx!

How it is
...now THAT'S telling it like it is! You sound like a new postie - getting put here, there and everywhere. Regarding the "first street" issue: there is this young man on one of the walks that I sometimes do, and he has a habit of finding me somewhere on the walk and asking what time I will be delivering to his address. In most cases, I tell him that I don't know (because usually it's been that long since I last did the walk regularly, that I've lost account of the timings). He then finds me somewhere else and asks me again. The penultimate time this happened, he wanted to know why other postmen do his street earlier, so I explained that was probably because they either have cars, and can do the walk more quickly or they do the walk according to the board or both of these things. People at the end of a walk sometimes complain about the late mail, whereas, the people at the start of the walk don't complain. The comments about getting mail at 2am in morning (I exaggerate) are about two years out of date: the customer has still not caught up with the notion that the postman no longer comes in the middle of the night any more.ad0128 wrote:only people i spoke to today where people asking why i'm so late

Rain? Well, I think we can safely say that is going to become a regular feature, now, for most parts of the countries. Taking your own bags out? I don't know about hardcore - you sound madly (sarcastic?)! ££££? Well, don't shoot yourself in the foot with the taxman's gun: too much overtime makes Mr Bank Manager a dull boy!

They think they have it bad now but more and more posties getting pi**ed off and learning to do job properly,I wonder
how long before the doms get a backbone!!!

The heavens opened in more ways than one!
We stopped Summer time savings this weektolkien wrote:any one else carrying on with the summer working ?,
we have been told it is carrying on as long as managers want us to ,with the result that as we have no night sorters and have to sort for an hour and half we are lucky to start our own deliveries at 11am so we are unable to finish our deliveries and if we dont want the OT break off, as the mail is so heavy , piling up in the office now some of us dont even complete the previous days break offs ,with the results that people dont get there mail for days at a time.
the managers have decided that they are going to keep us in as long as possible in the morning,as they now dont have to cover break offs and can sit in there nice warm dry offices all day.(pissing down here )leaving the mail in the bags for us to sort the next day making us even later,
can any on beat this for organisation .

HALF A POST
A day of 2 halfs - Half the coded came late - half the people were missing from IPS, half my packets were bulbs, did 2 halves of my walk, and the first half of the day was sunny and bright and the 2nd half got soaked to the skin.

can any one out there beat this?
Don't they see if they don't sort it out soon at some point you will taking so long to sort yesterdays cut-offs and that days mail that you may not even get out to the deliveries. IMHO its not flexibility, or lapsing (as envisaged), or even modernisation. Its plain and simple cuts for cuts sake made worse by Panic management. (What they use to call Management by fire fighting, ignore everything till you have to do something, sort that at the expense of everything else, and then move onto the next biggest fiasco that the bosses above might notice.)

HALF A POST - HALF A LEG!
Sounds like Bradistan! Oh - I got bit by a dog and spent the afternoon in A+E. I'm not fasting now! One manager got several people to come in and deliver nine bags of mail - I'd just started the walk. First letter at 11:45am; last letter at 12:06. Antibiotics at 17:00. Dog put down: sometime this week.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:A day of 2 halfs - Half the coded came late - half the people were missing from IPS, half my packets were bulbs, did 2 halves of my walk, and the first half of the day was sunny and bright and the 2nd half got soaked to the skin.
