Some offices currently have 10% of staff off on ordinary sick and 20% of staff on virus isolation so there likely won't be any overstaffing issues. Not defending the document of course.A2B wrote:Struggling to get my head round all this so might be missing something obvious but if they scrap all Waddington weeks and rest day/week cover won't the office be overstaffed?citypostie wrote:I think you right according to that. But a few people have said they are going no matter what it says on there. They've been gunning for them duty structures for ages. They all went in my area years agoLaggyBand wrote:The guidance provides that they are not simply “going” for the sake of it, only where they need to in order to drop staffing levels to the required 50%.citypostie wrote:I think all Wally weeks , 4 day weeks etc are going. It will be a new duty set for the officeLaggyBand wrote:Can someone help me interpret the PowerPoint guidance regarding Saturday resourcing...
So the idea is to have 50% staff for a Saturday.
Here’s the situation:
An office comprises of say, 10 x standard five day weeks, who currently get one rota day off a week, and 4 x four day weeks who get two rota days off a week.
Let’s say all posties do not want the fixed Saturday off, so no volunteers.
If the seven least senior staff are on five day weeks, does that mean they are forced to mon-fri, and the four day weeks keep their four days?
The way I read it, it is entirely possible to retain non standard duty structures provided staffing levels are at 50% using mon-fri Saturday off patterns for volunteers / less senior members.
Someone come at me.

Was concerned with that sentence myself. its f***ing disgusting we are discussing this after the efforts we have been putting in recently. So angry tonight I cud kill dead things.A2B wrote:Note is does say about loaning staff out if you have surplusWoody Guthrie wrote:It is allegedly only a temporary measure to deal with short-term staff shortages resulting from the pandemic so the idea is that there's too much workload in the system for the limited staff numbers we have. With this system how is it possible everyone hired in each office will still have a workload to carry out ?

I get that but that's not the situation everywhere, in fact i'd guess that RMs biggest reasons for delivery failures are due to van sharing being suspended and refusual to pay overtime in certain offices.

Previous to the document coming out DOMs have said there isn't time to formulate a work plan to introduce this on May 2nd as intended by RM at least partially. I suspect it still will not be sorted for May 9th either. Our DOM has said the document poses more questions than answers at the moment. Our DOM has been 'on the floor' most of the time for weeks so most of his managerial computer type work is not getting done. Formulating a plan to the implement the document is more time he doesn't have. I suspect other DOMs will be in this position.
My own thoughts on the document are that this is pretty much all that Martin Walsh said was coming to us including every other day delivery of letters and the five day operation plus thousands of job losses. I am not particularly 'union' or looking for a strike but if this document doesn't initiate strike action then nothing will. Rico does have us over a barrel though with the virus situation ongoing so industrial action may not be possible yet again. We really have been screwed over. The document plan really does not fix the staff shortages situation. What is needed is immediate testing of all RM staff or dependents who think they have the virus so those who don't have it can return to work. Posties didn't ask for or want this proposed solution which will make things worse.

Testing is useless unless you are tested every day which isn't going to happen, social distancing is here for the long term and RM know it.Celgar wrote:What is needed is immediate testing of all RM staff or dependents who think they have the virus so those who don't have it can return to work. RM should get the DOM a laptop then they can do their managerial computer type work as well as being on the floor

They should get something like that, ok they won't get one for every office but at least for all RDCs, MCs and larger DOs. Don't think I've seen any mentions anywhere in the news as to whether every positive case always have a fever

Have had another really good read of the document.
Quite interesting the points they have made about doing parcel deliveries on a Saturday. They anticipate roughly 20 parcels to be delivered per hour with around a 5 hour outdoor delivery span. It also sounds like they don't want anyone working past their time as they stressed it as ZERO overtime. Ironically, it got a mention for the Monday as well. Will all these parcels get delivered?
I know a lot of you guys like having the Saturday off and this seems like an ideal plan for RM to trial it. It just means that Monday will be a busier day and we will have less days in the week to get the flyers done. To be honest most postie's have them done by Saturday anyway.
The losers will be leave reserves, floaters and those who regularly do overtime by working their day off. The business has done this purely to save money not because of staff sickness. You mean to tell me that Asda or Morrisons have not had hundreds of staff that had gone on sick because of the coronavirus? Are these supermarkets decided to close on a Saturday or not employ any cashier's for the day because of sickness? They are giving their staff a friggin bonus!!
Royal Mail are not short of a Bob or two. They employed dozens of agency workers last Xmas, they have a CEO who earns millions yet he seems to spend most of his time outside the UK and we know the company are desperate to get modernization in.
Just be careful what you wish for

You don't have to have a fever to have COVID19, you can be a carrier and not feel ill yourself but still infect othersSpacePhoenix wrote:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/trav ... virus.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Celgar wrote:Previous to the document coming out DOMs have said there isn't time to formulate a work plan to introduce this on May 2nd as intended by RM at least partially. Social distancing isn't viable long term, for a typical row of shops, for social distancing to work for say a row of 10 shops, the queues will be across the road and onto the pavement. I can't see people keeping to it when it's cold and pissing down with rain in the winter. Apart from a potential vaccine (we don't yet know if one is possible) the only other realistic possibility is for everyone to wear a mask in public.A2B wrote:social distancing is here for the long term and RM know it.
I've seen mentions in the news that it could possibly be seasonal. We don't even know yet if someone who's caught it becomes immune (and if they do become immune is that against all strains or just the strain that they caught)

It's never pretty when a company tries to kill off a revenue stream because it doesn't fit with their vision.
The cherry on top - of course - is waiting until the rest of the country starts seriously thinking about relaxing the emergency measures.Nothing like a spate of news stories about folks not getting important letters to dampen the mood.

Food is a lot more important than letters and typically supermarkets employ Saturday staff. Plus we aren't closing, we just ain't bothering to deliver letters.postslippete wrote:The losers will be leave reserves, floaters and those who regularly do overtime by working their day off. And so many people are gagging to get their post. Asking for it in the street, rushing to the door to get it, pulling it out of your hand from the other side of the door as your post it through.britwrit wrote:Nothing like a spate of news stories about folks not getting important letters to dampen the mood.
I never really understand all the excitement some people have with getting junk mail, bills and bank statements.

If RM wanted to help the posties they would be doing things like hiring extra vans so that one of a van share doesn't have to walk or bus out and back from delivery. Other than non-drivers there is no clear information on how they will decide who works Mon-Fri and who works Mon-Sat, it mentions seniority but doesn't say how that will be done - will the most senior be asked what they want to do, or will the lowest be told what they will do. A split workforce will be in RM's favour.
The compulsory new hours will have a part timer's finishing time on a Fri and Sat is later than a full timer, how do they work together. A part timer is down to do 5 hours on a Saturday, how does that fit in 5 hours delivering parcels and packets! Our van share has been getting 60 parcels recently, with 5 hours at 20 per hour that only leaves time for 40 smaller packets - that is about the minimum we ever get on a regular basis and doesn't allow for Specials and Signed Fors. No overtime on a Monday when you have double mail is just creating more problems.
Screwed up company run be clueless idiots without the slightest clue of what actually goes on in their company. Union too busy ranting and raving and taking 10 minutes to say what they actually mean. Despite the CWU instructing reps not to get involved in any of the planning, I expect ours will be rearranging everything as soon as he can.
