You can’t ‘punish’ someone who drives by taking overtime from them because they drive.
What seems most likely is that in a pairing of driver and non driver, at least one person needs to go out with tracked etc each day for both sides, and it’s hardly going to be the person that doesn’t drive, so in this period of budget cuts then it makes sense for them to do it. I don’t agree with it as a way to treat staff and the way the mail will roll over.

Ours lasted about 3-days. No early IPS caused chaos… :whistle
“Shorts,in this weather?!”

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”

“What’s she been ordering now?”

The business runs on overtime, while some people need the overtime and no one should be judged.

The problem with the company is they don't care if you manage to complete everything on your delivery. Deliveries will fail because the office budget has been cut and managers know that.

It's always the same every day in regards to prioritising items, specials come first then tracked, then first class. Everything else doesn't matter because its not important to the customer.

Overtime has been cut so bad that you can't go over not even 10 minutes. The amount of deliveries that would be clear if the business paid just a bit of extended OT would be small.

They need us most at Christmas but after that your just a number.

We’ve had tracked coming back all week. No one to clear them without overtime.

It’s not in your interest to complete your round. There is no reason to let you stay on an up to date delivery any way. You just get moved onto one that failed the previous day.

Our manager is now selecting who can work their day off, non-drivers not allowed :left:
Is that because the OT is driving work?
They would say the job is now driving work. A non-driver would primarily be doing letters and that's what they're perfectly content to see roll over.
The machine stops.

Does 'the customer' (whoever that might be - sender or receiver) know this?

Probably not. But as long as the main priority is getting rid of parcels and first class mail, everything is not irrelevant anymore. The customer is not going to be interested in receiving a pizza leaflet or a catalogue.

The dynamics of the job have drastically changed over the past decade and the current model is now unachievable. Even with less mail, packets have increased ten fold and takes more time to deliver.

Everyone has to change the way they work by not rushing around, skipping breaks and certainly not working for free by going over, even if it means 5 minutes.

Madness when RM's owner has just pocketed a £220m dividend from his UK energy firm, so he could clearly afford to pay us OT if he wanted to do it

Minimum wage workers working for free to benefit a billionaire. There’s no words for it really apart from absolutely tragic.

That's not really how business works. Cross subsidies and all that.

I'd suspect the sending customer who paid to have stuff delivered probably wouldn't be too happy to know that.

And the recipient waiting for a new bank card, credit card bill that requires payment before a certain date etc might not be that impressed either.
