I think that's what they proposing in our office going from 1 in 4 Saturdays to 1 in 2 with a rotating day on the week you work the Saturday. Basically splitting office down the middle into 2 groups who have the same days off. On the Saturday you deliver parcels etc for both van share deliveries
What happens to the Posties who cannot drive?

How are they going to go out and deliver parcels?
I'm guessing they will be part of the 50% that won't be in on Saturdays and work Mon to Fri the lucky gits
I'm bloody fed up of the easy ride non-drivers get.

Norris9, speaking as a non-driver - you need to wind your neck in.

But broadly speaking having read through the document fully (might need a re read or two). I reckon this might actually work in my office and sort out some of the problems we are having during the pandemic.
We already do 1 in 6 and i reckon about 50% already take their day off,Would be more than willing to take Sat off? Probably (i would).
As i read it the remaining 50% carry on as normal with rest day covers or SA depending on what they do,The obvious response here is that they will use the excess rest day covers to wipe out the SA,But we have walks everyday that are not covered due to people being in isolation etc and can usually just cover the packets.
The week before last at one point there were 2 of us out of 6 rurals just scrabbling about trying to do the tracked over the whole area.
Part of the problem in our office is the amount of time its taking to get the parcels sorted means that we end up leaving the mail in the frame Thurs or Fri onwards as by the time we get out we only have time to do the packets.
Using any excess staff to help with packets sorting/delivery would give us a chance to get the mail done.
On Monday i had 3 days worth of mail in my frame D2Ds no chance,no room! With this scheme ok you've double mail to prep on Mon but if someones already prepped the d2d's taking them where you're going you'd probably pretty much empty the frame in one go.Again if any excess rest day covers are dealing with the packets this shouldn't be an issue.
Right i'm fully prepared to be shot down but in general i read this as a way of freeing up some bodies that can be utilised during the pandemic.
Like you’ve highlighted, most on here realise that once it’s in it’ll stay for good.

Rico is never going to bring back a more expensive system out of the goodness of his heart. He’s into money. Not humans.
That's why i said during the pandemic and broadly there are pitfalls like the bit about letterbox sized packets i know from last Sat doing this took my full duty time so there'd be no time to do another walk,Then again mine is a rural.

Fair enough and you might be right but can you call a strike over what we think might happen?

At the moment they have their excuse, it may be a bullshit excuse but it'll fly anywhere other than with us. It even looks on paper that it's doing us a favour.

Where do we go with this with regards to the large percentage of your office who aren't politically engaged, who don't follow the union FB page, who are only really union members in name?

We need to think about this a bit.

Yeah I get you. It’s a mess. Union response is to ignore all changes and carry on as normal. Let’s do that.

Mate, I love reading your posts but what are you actually saying? What’s your idea in there? You never give it away. You just pull the rest of us back from leaving the trenches.

In the midst of all of this I've only just realised that today was supposed to be 'National Postal Workers Day'. Some sick joke that's turned out to be :confused

There's only so much I can say on here but Saturday is going to get messy, very messy.
I know what the union is doing and it's dangerous.

The mech would very likely be as walk sort as there wouldn't be the capacity to sequence all of the stuff that would have been sequenced Friday + all the stuff that would normally be sequenced on Sunday. There will be a high probability of a high % of it going manual

Ive read through this all and to be honest I still don't have a clue whats going on. With this system how is it possible everyone hired in each office will still have a workload to carry out ?

I mean if a postie covers a duty day off each day off the week ( therefore 5 different duties in the week), but now those posties are all getting Saturday off what does the cover postie go ? I realise he works Saturday on parcels but what do they do during the week ?

I have my own duty but there are more senior people who don't, can they now claim my duty ?

When u think life cant get more stressful, Rico finds a way.

If he came to the office I think some might abandon social distancing for 5 minutes lol

It is allegedly only a temporary measure to deal with short-term staff shortages resulting from the pandemic so the idea is that there's too much workload in the system for the limited staff numbers we have.

If it's a long term thing, different story.

Same thoughts here, i'm sure we will be overstaffed and crowded when we are attempting to social distance!

Also we have PT staff on fulltime drive duties who book overtime everyday to complete, can't see where the vans and perhaps the drivers will come from to pick up the cutoffs
