This is an absolute ridiculous stance - as usual - from RM. As someone has pointed out, temperatures are usually taken in the shade - most of us will be in direct sunlight. And let’s say they monitor temps hour-by-hour from the comfort of their offices, why should we trust them when to tell us it’s too hot? By the time it’s 35c in the shade it could easily be 40c in the sun. And are they then going to phone EVERY postman currently on delivery. It’s impractical, and as usual RM putting profit before H&S.

but the uk hasn't suffered these climates before 35-38 official temp and probably never expected them, in reality in the direct sunshine maybe 40-43 or higher, now that is too feckin hot unless pool side with a parasol always nearby, the company needs to just suspend all deliveries in red & amber zones

It wont get to 35 in most places before midday on Monday, earlier on Tuesday depending on where you are. It’s not just the heat it’s the humidity, which is set to go up to ridiculously high levels on Monday and particularly all day Tuesday. I’ll be doing indoor flats and going up steps in other areas so that’ll be fun.
Thanks RM , OH I FORGOT YOU DON’T GIVE A DAMN.

You can dream on if you think we'll get extra staff in. Besides the work comes in later now, where as we'd get two lorries in from an RDC, on early, one late, they send a full one later.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑16 Jul 2022, 14:32Obviously there's nothing stopping them advancing deliveries on Monday, mailcentre dispatch times are irrelevant.
Tuesday might be slightly different but given the lighter workload on a Monday night it is perfectly reasonable to investigate the possibility of advancing the work during the night even if it means extra staff.
This whole "can't be done" thing is nonsense, I'm pretty sure it's not that challenging if the motivation is there to do it.
You won't get the mail from the MCs any earlier, you can dream on if you think it's going to happen

Excellent news guys. Just checked the BBC weather app. Going to hit 30 degrees by 10am where I am on Monday but not reaching 35 till 2pm so should have time to not only complete but take my lapsing too.

yeah summer 2020 was no picnic in the heat when most furloughed supping cold drinks in their back gardens living it up,
mon-tue will be extreme and hope common sense prevails without them wanting something back as a favour

How the hell did the CWU agree to this?
It should be no outdoor work after 12pm in all red and amber. Mail is less important than my life.
I might go off sick.

1976? Ah, but of course no-one was delivering their eighth bag at 2PM then.
I thought it was all very clear cut when it came to a red weather warning: there is a danger to life in the locations and times the warning is in effect so deliveries within those are suspended.
The machine stops.

Its very simple, if it gets over 30 degrees I am phoning into work and having a sick day, no way am I working in that heat. Screw Royal Mail, they clearly do not give a stuff about me, so I am going to put myself and my health first before RM profits.
