Colleagues in Wrexham have taken a step in the right direction with the delivery of a new sorting platform.

Many of the team were having trouble prepping the top row of their delivery frame as they were unable to comfortably reach customer’s mail without putting themselves at risk of injury.

Pictured above is Wrexham postwoman, Belinda Jones, trialling the new equipment with great success.

‘As I'm only 4ft 10ins the top row of the frame is difficult for me to reach my mail and particularly, the very top of the frame where the parcels go,’ said Belinda. ‘Previously, I’ve had shoulder pains and aches and sometimes back trouble from having to constantly reach and stretch.

‘I had a nasty fall down some stairs two and half years ago, which caused a bleed on my brain and has left me with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Having to look up and tilt my head back so often can make me really dizzy.

‘Hopefully the step will help stop these issues. It's so much easier putting the parcels on the top of the frame now. I can put them neatly in place instead of leaving them in a mess or at risk of falling on my head.’

Wrexham delivery office manager, Rich Thomas, said: ‘We have needed a platform like this for a while now as many of the team are under 5ft 8ins. It had got to the point where colleagues were using trays to reach the top rows of the frames when prepping the mail.

‘The equipment is light and easy to manoeuvre due to the wheels. It’s also nice and stable when stood on due to the mechanism and anti-slip covering.’

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

My wife used one of these, the problem is unlike the above picture our frames have an extra wing either side and as these platforms have no barrier on the sides it is very easy to slip of the side of the platform ( at least that's what the OH ASSIST workplace asessment report said) :no no

I don't see a strobe light either. This is a hazard to low flying planes.
The machine stops.

Looking at the right hand photo, shouldn't it be tucked in a bit more to prevent people tripping up on it?

Great! Something else for me to fall arse over tit over or get snagged up under a York when colleagues abandon them after use... like they do with mail sacks, grey sequence boxes and any other ankle lurking crap that's it too difficult and time consuming to put away properly after use.

However, being a short arse, I actually wouldn't mind one of these :thumbup

Another good idea would be a large metal lever with red handle, which when pulled allows the whole frame to crash into an abyss

We've got one and its a short term solution to get the top row of mech in, thats all. Its not really practical to expect short posties to be stepping on the platform and hopping back off again to pick up another one of the mountain of packets in their packet shroud. Surely the best way is to do away with the bottom and top part of the frames and just have all the frames longer in width?? But we all know Royal Mail won't do this as it takes up too much space on the shop floor and senior management are all about closing offices and cramming as many frames into one large depot as much as possible.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
