Duty Structures
I work as a COM Support in a multi-com unit, and we've just gone from everyone having a standard RDO rotation to having some staff on a 2 in 5 banked, and others on a 9 Day Fortnight.
I was just wondering how other offices are doing their weekly rotas. It was quite easy before, because we had an excel template for RDO's, which was relatively simple. But this is all new, because now we have 2 structures, and also other staff on 9day fortnight grouped into 4 duties, and we also have pods for the Town deliveries.
I'm just wondering how everyone else in other offices on similar patterns are working out their weekly rotas ?

Re: Duty Structures
Have you tried doing the rotas in the blocks of weeks? Do the 2 in 5 in blocks of five weeks.

Re: Duty Structures
Why are there two different duty structures within the same office?
Surely this is the issue

Re: Duty Structures
No doubt. Imagine a situation where the rotas were self populating. Thats a reality in many industries.

Re: Duty Structures
We were told that you absolutely couldn't have two different duty structures, I guess mainly to make managements life easierAcca Dacca wrote: ↑Yesterday, 11:03Why are there two different duty structures within the same office?

Re: Duty Structures
Why don’t you let the COM work it out? They get paid enough and there’s enough of them in your unit by the sounds of it that they can work it out between themselvesWelshBlueShirt wrote: ↑Yesterday, 14:15is there anyone else on here that plans the rotas for a 9 day fortnight ?

Re: Duty Structures
I am not sure if our COM has a template but he normally begins by putting the people who are on holiday on various duties.
Putting non drivers on driving duties is the next step.
Then you sit back and relax until you realise you have f****d everything up and start running round like a blue arsed fly moving people left right and centre to try and cover up your incompetence.
I am not sure Excel have a template for that.
I am sure AI will take over the task in the new year.

Re: Duty Structures
Our office has opted for the 2 in 5 Saturdays off model. It has a 5 week cycle that contains exactly 185 scheduled hours, averaging 37 hours a week with 2 Saturdays off.
9 day fortnights repeat every 2 weeks so I would imagine it would be mathematically possible to have 2 models in place if both models repeat something like every 10 weeks? But when you have staff that are singletons, paired walks in pods, 50/50s etc it really doesn't surprise me that some offices are having operational problems in making it all work.

Re: Duty Structures
In our office we have both duty structures 2in5 and 9 day fortnight, even thou all duties are unachievable the 9 day fortnight seem to be bringing back less than the 2 in 5 thats as long as we have the promised help the union and royal mail said we would get 7 weeks in and the extra help has disappeared (which we all know would happen) and the whole DM26 has gone tits up.Well done to royal mail bosses and union bosses you should all have a degree on how to f--k a company up.
